Description:
Skills developed during this apprenticeship will not only enable participants to work in the fire protection industry but will also provide them with skills that are directly transferable to other industries including plumbing, HVAC, and electronics.

Apprentices will acquire knowledge to work as a fire protection technician with the ability to inspect, install, and service different forms of fire suppression systems.

In addition, they will have a basic understanding of fire alarm panels and notification systems including related devices.

**Job Specific Functions
- including but not limited to**:

- Work alongside experienced technicians while assisting in the inspection, installation, and servicing of fire protection systems.
- Evaluate and determine whether equipment is operating as expected; troubleshooting skills; equipment maintenance; repairing; installation; communication skills; critical thinking skills; active learning skills; time management; computer skills.
- Complete inspection reports and other work orders, submit on a timely basis.
- Follow safety procedures, ensure all work is being done in accordance with safety policies and procedures as well as code compliance.
- Become familiar with NFPA, state and local regulatory codes.
- Attend and participate in classroom instruction and assessments.
- Pull materials for jobs as required.

**General Functions**:

- Keep appointments and show up to work on time.

**Requirements**:
**Qualifications, Experience and Education
- including but not limited to**:

- Must have basic mechanical or electrical skills, or other related experience.
- Must be able to procure COF's and additional licenses, certifications as required.
- Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs. Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Experience working with fire protection and suppression equipment is preferred
- Must be able to perform simple tasks independently after being given assignments.
- Customer service skills.
- Computer literate.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Well organized, self motivated, flexible and a team player.
- Valid drivers license and must be able to get to and from job sites.
- Attitude and actions are in line with company’s mission statement, vision and values.
- Must be able to understand and comply with the company’s safety and employment policies.
- Must be able to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
- Ability to work on Job sites that may include construction sites and other locations where personal protective equipment will be required, and work in confined spaces.
- The position has frequent periods of stress.
- Job sites may include schools, hospitals, jails, pharmaceutical companies and other companies that may require additional background checks and medical and drug screens.
