LGBTQIA+Specialist

**POSITION DETAILS**

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the LGBTQIA+ Specialist is a member of the Student Affairs division and is responsible for overseeing the LGBTQIA+ Center and all programming efforts aimed at the education and celebration of the College’s LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, and staff. The Specialist will collaborate with colleagues on campus to support the College’s strategic plan, with a particular focus on creating a student-centered environment that is welcoming and reflective of the College’s culture of care. Through research and data collection, the Specialist will be responsible for keeping the campus community abreast of current events and best practices focused on the academic success and well-being of the College’s LGBTQIA+ students.

The LGBTQIA+ Specialist will:
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the LGBTQIA+ Center.- Oversee and support to office employees, including student workers.- Facilitate the collaboration of LGBTQIA+ organizations and the college community in educational activities.- Provide leadership for implementing strategies that are data driven and research based for accelerating academic achievement and promoting the social-emotional well-being of LGBTQIA+ students.- Lead outreach efforts to find and build relationships with community partners to support LGBTQIA+ students to assist in procuring funding for college-wide initiatives that center LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, and staff.- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to develop programs, support groups, and mentoring opportunities for LGBTQIA+ students.- Coordinate college-wide events aimed celebrating the college’s LGBTQIA+ community.- Attend the annual CUNY Lavender Graduation and represent QCC at the Queens Pride Parade.- Provide workshop for faculty, staff, and administrators around issues important to LGBTQIA+ student success.- Collaborate with Academic Affairs to build LGBTQIA+ inclusive curriculum.- Present data to faculty, staff, administrators, and community groups on student achievement and mental health related to LGBTQIA+ students.- Participate in meetings and serve on college committees to ensure the representation and consideration of the college’s LGBTQIA+ population when decisions are made.- Serve as a resource and advocate for LGBTQIA+ students.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Development and facilitation of workshops.
- Management of office operations, including the supervision of support staff.
- Mentoring college students.
- Work with the LGBTQIA+ population.
- Work with community groups.
- Employment at a college.
- Experience with data collection and/or assessment.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.

**CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW**- Develops and implements programming, services, and learning opportunities for students, promoting the personal development of a diverse student population.- Administers one or more student affairs programs, providing program management, assistance with policy development, supervision and training of all professional and support staff, budget monitoring, and report preparation- Serves as a resource to student groups and/or populations as a consultant and advocate for their concerns- Researches and stays current on higher education programs, trends, and issues with student impact- Produces workshops and materials to support student programs; manages on-line communities; develops on-line social networking activities, and develops and maintains multimedia content on program web sites- Performs related duties as assigned.

**COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS**

Salary$ 64,649 to $ 72,667. commensurate with education and experience.
