As a TELECOMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST your typical work assignments may include:

- Responsible for serving as a technical expert overseeing the development, training, and usability of telecommunications equipment.
- Serving as a designated trainer to develop training materials, guides, pamphlets or instructional courses for telecommunications devices and equipment.
- Assisting DEA employees in domestic or foreign locations with activation, testing and troubleshooting their Employee Alert Devices.
- Engaging with agency personnel and managers concerning program operations, participation, and requirements to utilize technologies.

**Undergraduate and Graduate Education**: Major study - electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management, or other fields related to the position to be filled; OR
- **Specialized Experience**:Experience in evaluating, analyzing, developing, managing, or improving communications systems, procedures, and requirements that demonstrated knowledge of current developments and trends in communications concepts and technology.- **SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE**

**You may qualify at the GS-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement**:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrate your ability in: 1) Serving as a technical user of two-radio communications involving Ultra High Frequency, Very Frequency, and High Frequency; 2) Preparing training and instructing others with utilization of such technologies; 3) Troubleshooting telecommunications hardware and software to identify performance issues.
- Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. _
