This is semi-skilled work in the operation and inspection of a potable water treatment plant or pumping station on a permanent or rotating shift at the **Cosme Water Plant in Northwest Hillsborough County**.** **Work requires the exercise of sound judgment and experience to make minor adjustments to machinery, equipment and related apparatus in accordance with established operating procedures and standards.

**Salary: $20.25 - $33.90 Hourly**

***The starting salary and selection into a Water Plant Operator position, at level I or level II, will depend upon qualifications and experience. The entry level pay for Operator II is $24.30 hourly.**

**To Qualify**

**Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must**:

- Possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver License.
- Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Possess and continue to maintain a State of Florida Water Operator “C” Certificate for water purification -or
- must obtain the Certificate within two (2) years of appointment to the position.
- Be able to accurately perform basic water treatment chemistry tests following detailed procedures.
- Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
- Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, an applicant must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

**Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants**:

- Have some experience in the operation of a potable water treatment plant or pumping station.
- Have six (6) months experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical machinery similar to that used in a potable water treatment plant or pumping station.
- Are able to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Are able to maintain accurate and detailed operating records and input information into a computer terminal following written instructions.
