**SUMMARY**: Creates a flexible elementary grade gifted program favorable to learning and personal growth; establishes effective rapport with pupils; motivates pupils to develop skills; attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation in accordance with each pupil’s ability; establishes good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Appropriate Arizona Elementary Teacher Certification
- Gifted Endorsement
- Meets Criteria of Highly Qualified
- Minimum of a Provisional SEI or ESL Endorsement
- Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Demonstrates teaching skills and knowledge in gifted program, utilizing course of study adopted by the Governing Board and other appropriate learning activities.
- Evaluate pupil’s academic and social growth, and prepare progress reports. Maintains the confidentiality of each student’s record
- Establishes and maintains lines of communication with students and parents on a regular basis. Communicates with parents to discuss pupils’ progress with respect when reviewing a child’s problems or progress.
- Maintains a learning atmosphere by creating an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers to meet the physical and psychological requirements of the students
- Maintains professional competence by participating in classes, workshops and other growth activities.
- Select and requisition instructional aids and materials; maintain required inventory records.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional activities and attends required staff meetings and trainings.
- Assists in implementing policies, administrative regulations and procedures established by the Governing Board, district administration and unit school principal.
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Assists other teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum.
- Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
- Directs student workers, volunteers, etc. for the purpose of maximizing their efficiency and meeting work requirements.
- Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, administrative and/or school policies.
- Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee.

**LANGUAGE SKILLS**:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret education materials and programs. Ability to write reports, procedure manuals, and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers, students, administration, and the community.
