Corporate Counsel

Vermont Electric Cooperative seeks a Corporate Counsel to advise on regulatory, business law, and governance.

Our territory goes from the Lake Champlain islands to the Connecticut River, the Canadian border to points as far South as Huntington. To succeed in this position, you must be comfortable advising towards action. You will work on a wide variety of projects and issues with a wide variety of internal and external partners. Every day will be different. You must have a member-focused mindset and the discipline to thrive in a tightly regulated industry. You will need strong relationship-building, a love of learning, and a mindset of being trainable. You must be able to ask difficult questions and give difficult answers while maintaining positive connection with your co-workers and external partners.

The Corporate Counsel will advise on legal issues related to rights of way, environmental permitting, contracts, governance, regulatory filings, and any other legal questions that arise. This will include coordination with external counsel and work with regulatory agencies.

This position reports directly to the CEO. It is local and hybrid, based out of our Johnson headquarters.
