**Job Description Summary**
The ED Runner/Transporter will support patient flow in the South Shore Hospital Emergency Department by performing a range of tasks at the direction of the nursing team. Duties will be based on internal need - Specific examples listed below.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
**ED Runner Duties**
- Stock Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) carts and monitor PPE supply levels for replenishment.
- Deliver lab specimens to lab/other areas of hospital (maps to be provided).
- Deliver and retrieve equipment such as AVA video monitors and Rover devices as needed.
- Assist nursing staff by getting bathing supplies, linens, and items from the patient nourishment station/supply rooms.
- Assist with trash disposal (outside of patient rooms).
- Assist with delivering food to patients.
- Maintain safety by following current standard precaution guidelines, including wearing the necessary PPE and performing frequent hand hygiene.
**ED Transporter Duties**:
- Transport patients to/from testing area, patient care unit or discharge area.
- Confirm two patient identifiers (DOB and name) with each transport.
- Accurately inform department of patient departure and return to unit.
- Transport patients in a safe, timely manner.
- Transport blood and blood products.
- Transport x-rays reports, medical reports, and all other necessary equipment.
- Exchange code carts or airway/transport boxes after use.
- Retrieve, clean and make up stretchers.
- Maintain safety by following current standard precaution guidelines, including wearing the necessary PPE and performing frequent hand hygiene.
**JOB REQUIREMENTS**
**Minimum Education**:
- **Preferred**
High school graduate or equivalent
**Minimum Work Experience**
None required
**Required additional Knowledge, and Abilities**
Must have the ability to be courteous and professional at all times, while working in a fast paced, high volume department.
