**Department Description**

The position is critical in providing guidance and support on decision-making to faculty in all areas of undergraduate affairs for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). Serves as cornerstone in the undergraduate program, holding primary responsibility and accountability of all undergraduate programs within the department. Act as one of two leads to program assistant and peer advisor. Involves counseling students on academic program policies and issues; monitors student academic progress and assists students in making appropriate educational choices and decisions, and directly supervises the peer advisor team. Work is performed autonomously with direct reporting to the Student Services Supervisor and there is a dotted line relationship to the Director of Engineering Undergraduate Office. This relationship will allow the director to implement and assess academic advising best practices for students in the college to align practices with the academic advising profession nationally and internationally. The director will provide input during the annual EPAR process. The CEE undergraduate program has 650 students with two majors, civil engineering (ABET accredited) and environmental engineering (new major), and two minors (sustainability in the built environment and construction engineering and management) and 40 faculty.

**Job Summary**

Under general supervision, independently responsible for managing undergraduate support services and in collaboration with the faculty, implement the department's undergraduate program, including assessment processes in compliance with ABET and other accreditation criteria in the College of Engineering (COE). Provide comprehensive and complex academic advising services to undergraduate students including advising program development, planning and implementation. Actively participate on faculty governance committees and recommend program improvements as needed. Provide specialized expertise in academic and student affairs issues pertinent to undergraduate students and the development of college and department undergraduate education policies and practices. Serve as lead undergraduate academic advisor and department expert on academic advising. Collaborate with the department student services team to ensure all program goals, objectives, and needs are met. Provide development and implementation of outreach, recruitment, admission, and retention efforts for undergraduate students. Represent the department on undergraduate matters with substantial delegated authority.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**

**Minimum Education/Experience**:

- Bachelor's degree in a related area; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Experience in holistic advising and counseling approaches and experience with academic policies, procedures, and requirements in a higher education setting; recommending solutions to progression and requirement issues; skills to make proper referrals to other campus resources.
- Experience in curriculum planning processes and best practices; knowledge of, or desire to learn, undergraduate and graduate courses and degree requirements.
- Experience in problem identification, reasoning, analysis to identify trends; skills to find solutions to conflicting situations.
- Experience discussing and engaging in practices directly related to equity, inclusion, identity development, diversity, and cultural competency and humility.

- Strong professional, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to work with and gain trust from department and college leadership, faculty, students and other constituents from diverse backgrounds.
