The overall scope of responsibility includes village-wide grounds maintenance and upkeep of all public grounds, public areas, clusters, lawns, and gardens to ensure beauty and curb appeal throughout all Heritage Village locations.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES**
- Cultivate gardens, trim or pick flowers, and clean flower beds.
- Follow planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass, or plant flowers or foliage.
- Prune or trim trees, shrubs, hedges, or other vegetation, using shears, pruners, gas-powered tools, or chainsaws.
- Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls.
- Care for natural turf fields, making sure the underlying soil has the required composition to allow proper drainage and to support the grasses used on the fields
- Install rock gardens, fences, and planters.
- Irrigate lawns, trees, and plants using appropriate sprinkler hoses or cans.
- Mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.
- Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, or other grounds features.
- Haul or spread topsoil or straw over seeded soil to hold soil in place.
- Gather and remove litter and dispose of waste materials.
- Shovel snow from walks, driveways, or parking lots and spread salt in those areas.

**PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Basic understanding of plants, shrubs, and grounds maintenance, the ability to operate hand tools and light groundskeeping equipment, lift heavy objects, and work effectively and efficiently during difficult weather conditions such as rain, snow, heat, and cold.
- English Language — Basic knowledge of the English language. Must understand verbal and written instructions and communicate back verbally and in writing with their supervisor or crew leader.
- Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Chemistry — Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and the chemical processes and transformations they undergo. This includes the uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.

**ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Working toward a high school diploma or higher.
- Must have a valid state of Connecticut Driver’s license.
