ORGANIZATION
The Wildlands Conservancy is a private nonprofit public benefit organization dedicated to preserve the beauty
and biodiversity of the Earth and to provide programs so that children may know the wonder and joy of nature.

LOCATION
Santa Margarita River Trail Preserve located in Fallbrook, CA. May also be assigned to occasionally travel to adjacent
TWC locations such as the Mariposa Reserve.

The Assistant Preserve Manager assists the South Coast Regional Director with the overall management and
internal processes needed to manage the Region. Coordinates, and maintains partnerships with conservation
organizations and local, state, and federal agencies.

The work involves the routine exercise of discretion and includes advising management, planning and
contributing to Wildlands management policies, and improving general operations. Being proactive,
organized, communicative, and taking personal accountability for the projects assigned are essential for the
success of this position. The position includes outdoor work in all weather conditions and requires regular and
punctual attendance and weekend work. Directly reports to Regional Director, and assists with the
management of Ranger and Preserve Steward staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsibilities include directing the work of Preserve staff, consultants/contractors, and volunteers.
Additionally, assists in ensuring compliance requirements are met; and takes the lead on special projects as
assigned by the Regional Director. Performs public contact, conservation advocacy, and outreach.

Actively represents and promotes Wildlands mission and interests through involvement with visitors, residents,
and community groups, governmental and business entities in the local area. Plans and coordinates
stewardship and habitat restoration activities.

Active role in accomplishing staff results by assisting the Regional Director in communicating job expectations;
planning, monitoring; positive coaching, mentoring, and counseling employees; enforcing systems, policies,
procedures, and productivity standards.

Assists in the oversight of the Region’s Volunteer program. Creates and organizes volunteer efforts for studies,
wildlife inventories, surveys, trail maintenance, restoration efforts, and recreational enhancements within the
Region.

Supports and fosters the Behold the Beauty Association across the Region by conducting routine outreach with
visitors and throughout the broader community to promote the association.

Oversees best management practices for invasive species management and removal, such as herbicide
treatment methods. Supports landscape-scale restoration projects, weed eradication, and best management
practices for biological resources. Assists in habitat restoration programs for oak woodlands, riparian corridors,
native grasslands; and eradication of invasive plants.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and training.

Oversight of statistical research and record-keeping (visitation, volunteer hours, quarterly trainings, and other
regional tracking), data updating and input, visitor correspondence, inventory completion, and project
completion.

Oversees the use of Preserve by individuals and groups; ensures compliance with management policies,
conservation goals, and access procedures; provides protection and security to the land and its resources.

Greets visitors, provides access and other information to the general public, ensures their safety, and enforces
Preserve rules and regulations.

Responsible for ensuring staff is up to date on all OSHA and other safety-related training. Promotes safety
awareness among the staff; updates safety procedures, conducts training sessions, performs periodic
inspections, and maintains necessary records in compliance with Cal/OSHA and TWC’s safety protocols.

Occasionally performs the duties of a Ranger, and carries out the directives of the Regional Director and
delegates as necessary. Provide relative feedback and consistent communication to the Regional Director.

Assists in the recruitment process, orienting and training employees, maintaining a safe, secure and legal work
environment, and developing personal growth opportunities.

Ensures cleaning and stocking of trail restrooms are conducted by staff daily, and the preserve office is kept
tidy and clean.

Provides management oversight and conducts grounds maintenance and restoration tasks, facilities
improvements; trail building and maintenance; signage and boundary posting; building and facilities
maintenance; and equipment/vehicle inspection and maintenance.

Oversees and assists with habitat restoration programs for riparian habitat; helps to identify and document rare
or endangered species on the property; identifies non-native or invasive plants, prioritizes and helps with
removal.

Ensures trail safety inspections occur frequently. Assists with emergency scenarios, and on-site accident
