SUMMARY
The Lead, Newsroom, is a pivotal role designed for a visionary editor with deep expertise in HR and business journalism. This leadership position offers the unique opportunity to drive the creation of groundbreaking stories and engage an expansive audience across the world of work. Reporting directly to the Director of the Newsroom, the Lead will spearhead the newsroom's strategy and operations, as well as write content that brings new prospective members and customers into the SHRM ecosystem. This role is charged with delivering engaging, innovative content to meet SHRM customers at the top of the funnel, providing invaluable insights, trends, and actionable advice.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Content Leadership: Direct the strategic planning and execution of content for four primary flagships across multiple platforms, ensuring it aligns with SHRM’s mission and meets audience needs. Oversee the content lifecycle from ideation to distribution, guaranteeing all material is authoritative, informative, and captivates the audience.
- Editorial Direction and Innovation: Lead and mentor a team of writers and editors in producing high-caliber articles, reports, and digital media. Ensure editorial excellence and consistency across all channels. Drive the adoption of innovative content formats and storytelling methods to enhance audience engagement and reach.
- Advanced Audience Engagement: Utilize advanced analytics to develop sophisticated content strategies that cater to audience preferences and behaviors. Oversee the curation of e-newsletters and digital collections to maintain relevance and drive traffic.
- Strategic Cross-Functional Leadership: Forge strong collaborations with key departments across SHRM to align content with marketing, communications, and strategic goals. Act as a senior representative of the newsroom in organizational planning and strategy sessions.
- Thought Leadership and Industry Influence: Establish and maintain a prominent presence in the HR industry through participation in major conferences and events. Leverage this network to generate exclusive content, establish a thought leadership position, and bring cutting-edge insights to SHRM’s audience.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Business, or a related field.
- At least six years of experience in news reporting or editorial roles, with a significant portion in leadership positions within business-to-business or association publishing.
- Demonstrated success in building and managing editorial teams, developing content strategies, and executing innovative digital publishing initiatives.
- Deep knowledge of HR and business landscapes is essential.

- Leadership and Collaboration: Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop talent within the newsroom. Strong collaboration capabilities to work seamlessly across functions and lead strategic initiatives.
- Strategic and Analytical Thinking: Adept at strategic planning and analysis, with the capacity to leverage content metrics for continuous improvement and audience growth.
- Visionary and Adaptable Leader: Forward-thinking and innovative, with a proactive approach to embracing new content trends and technologies. Excellent at managing multiple initiatives and adapting strategies in a dynamic media landscape.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Capable of performing essential duties with reasonable accommodations.
- Work involves sitting, talking, hearing, and typing, with visual acuity required for keyboard usage, data analysis, and computer terminal operation.
- Occasional light lifting may be necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is primarily conducted in a professional office setting, utilizing standard office equipment.
- Expected office presence of 3 days per week.
- Minimal travel requirements, less than 10%
