El éxito de un Barman no se debe solamente a una habilidad de preparar las bebidas para los huéspedes correctamente, hay que también crear una experiência única y memorable para los clientes. El Barman tendrá las habilidades básicas, pero constantemente buscará nuevas tendencias del mercado, y entender las necesidades del huésped como van evolucionando. No es únicamente una persona que se anima para el mundo de bebidas; sino que el anfitrión del bar. El Barman sale del bar mismo para tomar responsabilidad personal para la experiência directa del huésped. Utilizará su sabiduría y esfuerzo para lograr la perfección del bar en cuanto a su aspecto y función. Establecerá relaciones con otros dentro del hotel, igual que dentro de la comunidad misma. Debe mostrar una pasión para la experiência de cada huésped, con ojo en los detalles-del dinero que pase por sus manos, la información que provee a los huéspedes, y orgullo para la calidad de sus bebidas.
En cualquier puesto que tenga, hay una serie de temas fundamentales para lograr el éxito; por ejemplo, crear un medio ambiente de trabajo seguro, seguir las políticas y procedimientos de la compañía, respetar la confidencialidad, proteger los activos de la compañía, mantener las normas de calidad, asegurarse de que el uniforme, el aspecto personal y nível de comunicación sean profesionales en todo momento. Los Especialistas de servicio al huésped están siempre en marcha; se ponen de pie, se sientan, caminan mucho, y se dedican a todo tipo de tareas (mover, levantar, llevar, empujar y colocar objetos que pesan 25 libras o menos sin ayuda; alcanzar hacia arriba, arrodillarse, girarse, estirarse y encorvarse).
