**DESCRIPTION OF WORK**:
As a Food Service Worker 1, you will perform routine work in the preparation of meals and sanitation of food preparation and serving areas at the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center. Key duties of the position include cleaning and sanitizing equipment, utensils, dishes, pots, pans, work surfaces, and other kitchen items; preparing trays, measuring portions, serving food, and transporting trays, carts, and nourishment; using equipment such as mixers, dicers, slicers, knives, and grinders.

**Work Schedule and Additional Information**:

- Full-time employment (8.0 hours/day; 40 hours/week)
- Work hours are 2nd shift (12:00 PM to 8:30 PM), rotating days and weekends, with 30-minute lunch.

**Preferred Qualifications (not required)**:

- Previous food service worker experience
- Willingness to work in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania
- Willingness to work full-time
- Willingness to work 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM with rotating days and weekends
- Food service experience in an assisted living facility, nursing home, hospital, restaurant, or other food service operation
- Experience interacting with patients, residents, or customers while serving food/cleaning in patient/resident rooms or a dining room setting
- Work experience with food safety and sanitation in a dietary department.
- Experience cleaning, washing, peeling, slicing, and dicing food items; using kitchen equipment such as VCM, food processor, tabletop chopper, and garbage disposal; chopping, dicing, and slicing meats, poultry, fish, and cheeses; heating simple foods such as eggs, sandwiches, and hamburgers; preparing sandwiches, assembling salads, and serving portions including desserts; plating and serving meals from hot food cart; cleaning and sanitizing equipment, utensils, dishes, pots, pans, work surfaces, and other kitchen items; transporting and assisting in loading and unloading food delivery trucks from kitchen and dining rooms; transporting food and supplies to and from freezers, refrigerators, and storeroom; selective menu, taking food orders, waitressing, and dining room service; food cart and dining room serving area set up; reading meal and tray tickets or tags; tray assembly and working on a tray line; and operating commercial kitchen equipment
