**JOB SUMMARY**:Oversee daily operations of the Facilities and Maintenance department. Assign work requests to the appropriate technician. Order, track, and manage supply inventories. Schedule maintenance plan projects. Support the technicians as well as work in the field as necessary.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**:

- Ability to lead and organize a team to maintain the school division facilities.
- Skills in using measurement devices.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools.
- Ability to perform general maintenance on HVAC systems.
- Ability to perform basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical and mechanical work.
- Acquire the ability to support each essential trade discipline satisfactorily with knowledge of tools and techniques to complete the task.
- Ability to lead and organize a team to maintain the school division facilities.

**Requisite Education and Experience**:

- Five years of related experience
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia Driver License.

**PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**:_(including but not limited to the following)_
- Works independently without supervision.
- Responds to emergency duty assignments on both a daily and on-call basis.
- Serves as the supervisor in the absence of the Director of Facilities and Maintenance.
- Requisitions supplies and tools, maintains inventory stock records and inventory control of tools and supplies, and interacts with outside vendors in the procurement of materials and equipment.
- Trains and counsels members of the maintenance department in the proper methods, practices, and techniques of repair and maintenance and arranges outside courses on new equipment in cooperation with the Director of Facilities and Maintenance..
- Reviews incoming work orders and assigns to the appropriate technicians.
- Collaborates with the facilities bookkeeper on procurement and monitoring the maintenance operating budget.
- Moves equipment between school system facilities.
- Reports problems with assigned vehicles; maintains vehicle cleanliness as well as oil, gas, and coolant levels.
- Performs work in a timely manner.
- Assigns tools to maintenance staff and maintains a tracking log.
- Assists throughout maintenance when there is a need for additional personnel due to absences or in emergency situations.
- Serves as project manager on all non-CIP facility projects.

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**

Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public through the
use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions will be required.. Requires extensive safety training, use of protective devices such as face shields, eye/ear/nose protection and skin protection. Very heavy work: exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
