Under direction and supervision of the Family Services Coordinator, performs a wide variety of duties involved in providing support and advocacy for the rights and protection of victims of Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking as a Victim Advocate at Fair Haven, Lake County's Rape Crisis Center.
This position is responsible for responding to sexual assault/human trafficking victim in Lake, Porter, and LaPorte county hospitals. This position will also help manage the 24/7 crisis line.
They are responsible for the assessment of the individual victim’s needs and will work together with other community resources to fulfill those needs through general advocacy and support.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Victim Advocacy within the Direct Services Department
- Provide emotional support, case management, crisis intervention, and long-term support to survivors of sexual assault and human trafficking.
- Participate in an On-Call rotation for 24-Hour emergency response to ensure support is available for program outside of business hours.
- Hold and manage calls on our 24/7 Crisis Line when on back up or assigned.
- Help clients navigate resources, legal processes, and safety plan when in crisis due to violent situations (human trafficking, sexual assault, and domestic/family violence).
- Maintains good working relationships with other agencies.
- Attend allied professional meetings and participate in working groups as assigned to help build and expand services.
- Responsible for developing contacts and building liaison relationships within the community.
- Assist with community outreach efforts to engage the community and allied professionals in the program.
- Prepare for and facilitate support groups (may include the following: Faith-Focused Support Groups, Adolescent Support Groups, Trauma-Based Support Groups, and Support Groups facilitated off campus (Lake County Community Corrections, East Chicago Health Department, etc.).
- Provide short-term childcare to clients in the office
Additional duties
- Responsible for data entry and maintenance of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports related to client services, statistics, volunteer hours, case disposition, and other services provided by the Direct Services Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicant must consent to and successfully complete a full background investigation pursuant to NRS 179.180 et seq., which includes a criminal history check and finger printing.
- One-year experience providing crisis intervention, victim advocacy, and office assistance preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form required.
- Ability to maintain accurate and complete files and data collection documentations.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision required.
- A valid driver’s license and a working, insured vehicle required at the time of appointment.
Knowledge of:
- Operations, services, and activities of a victim advocacy program.
- Effective interviewing, listening, and crisis intervention skills.
- Community resources and the availability of those resources.
- Case management principles and practices.
- Principals and characteristics of victims of crime.
- Terms and acronyms commonly used in assigned functions.
- Modern office procedures, methods, and technological equipment.
