**Purpose of the Position**:
The Returning Student Advisor is responsible for, but not limited to, supporting the onboarding of returning students as they acclimate to UMA online programs. The Returning Student Advisor builds rapport with students as they offer a high level of service with classroom navigation, resource utilization, and encourage student success. The Returning Student Advisor primary purpose is to advise students on appropriate pace of progress towards program completion.

The Returning Student Advisor reports to the Manager, Re-Entry.

UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus.
- Anticipated starting rate of $18.00 per hour

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Functional**:

- Contacts students on a regular basis to build and maintain rapport and serves as the student’s advisor and first point of contact to ensure questions are answered and concerns are resolved.
- Assists students with questions related to course navigation, academic policies, course expectations, technical assistance, and other student support services.
- Provides guidance to at-risk students to ensure student success.
- Supports on-going student retention efforts
- Participates in process improvement initiatives.
- Calls students to procure proper forms and paperwork, as needed.
- Develops a thorough knowledge of UMA web properties, processes, and policies to be used daily in Learner Services

**Compliance**:

- Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
- Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.

**Work Experience, Skills & Abilities**:
**Minimum Requirements**:

- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- 2 years of experience in student services, academic advising, or education.
- Knowledge of and adherence to regulations and compliance
- Demonstrate Personal honesty and integrity
- Ability to meet customer service standards
- Ability to work effectively on a team, both within and across Ultimate Medical Academy departments.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and ability to generate enthusiasm.
- Able to professionally communicate fluently in verbal and written English
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Skype and Microsoft Teams
- Able to support a diverse and inclusive work environment

**Preferred Requirements**:

- Associates degree or other advanced educational coursework.
- 5 years of experience in student services, academic advising, or education.

**Working Environment**:

- Office Environment - Must be able to work in the UMA Office
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

**Physical Demands**:

- Requires long periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer
- Requires occasional bending, stooping and squatting
- Requires occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
