**Position Objective**: Be a role model for teammates being a key member of the Animal Care Management Team responsible for maintaining a positive and proactive work environment and assuring Animal Care adheres to our mission every day.

**Responsibilities**:

- Perform the regular duties of an Animal Care Specialist (see job description) while also managing the administrative tasks of this job.
- Lead and motivate all team members (staff, student, volunteers) with effective communications, improving operations, and role modeling responsible behaviors.
- Develop and train other team members on tasks.
- Manage the volunteer program for Animal Care including the onboarding, scheduling communication of tasks, and recognition.
- Maintain a positive relationship with Davidson-Davie Community College in support of the Museum’s student intern program.
- Collaborate with Animal Care Team Leadership on student intern interviewing, mentoring, evaluating.
- Support student interns with coaching and provide feedback to them and to their instructors as needed.
- Work with Animal Care Team Leadership on resource management including all commissary and general husbandry supplies.
- Assure that all necessary logs, charts, forms, and other documents are up to date and in place at the start of each month.
- Assure that all logs, charts and Animal Care Forms are scanned, accurately named, and saved in appropriate files.
- Collaborate with the Animal Care Team Leadership on Museum events and programs in which Animal Care participates.
- Assist Animal Care staff in completing annual welfare assessments.
- Cover on-call duty as assigned.
- Be a key carrier for PDAs (potentially dangerous animals), assuring that access to these areas only occurs adhering to strict access protocols.
- Lead team for wild animal on grounds removal (I.e., copperhead, raccoon in trash can, etc.).
- Effectively communicate operational successes, opportunities, and concerns to Animal Care Team Leadership
- Know and ensure that Museum policies and procedures are followed.
- Using the Museum’s values as a guide, foster positive culture on the team, motivating through positive reinforcement.
- Prioritize and handle multiple tasks, delegating when appropriate.
- Work independently with limited coaching and oversight.
- Always demonstrate adherence to Museum safety procedures.
- Engage with Museum visitors in a positive and helpful way to support an enjoyable and safe guest experience.
- Prioritize the Museum’s values of inclusion and kindness in all interactions with staff, volunteers, professional colleagues, and guests, both on grounds as well as when representing the Museum at off-site activities.

Actual Pay Rate: $23.00/hour
