POSITION DESCRIPTION
RESEARCH (90%)
Working for faculty member David Segal, the APS will be expected to investigate therapeutic approaches to neurologic disease, particularly Neurofibromatosis and ADNP syndromes. The APS will be expected to examine gene expression changes in iPSC-derived human neuronal cell cultures in response to various molecular treatments, such as epigenetic editing with CRISPR or zinc finger, or with antisense oligonucleotides.
PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND ACTIVITY (5%)
The APS will participate in professional societies and conferences appropriate to their specific field. The incumbent will attend seminars to present research results and may give oral presentations to public and professional interest groups. The APS may coordinate and/or give presentations at seminars, laboratory meetings or educational functions.
UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE (5%)
QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD degree level in molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of research experience in molecular therapy of rare disorders.
- Extensive knowledge of the growth of maintenance of human neural progenitor cells and differentiated neurons, including maintaining, cryogenic storing, differentiating, characterizing, co-culturing, differentiating, and introducing. DNA/RNA/protein by electroporation, transfection, or viral vector transduction.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience with molecular cloning and viral vector preparation.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience with RT-qPCR, flow cytometry, and immunocytochemistry.
- Experience growing human neurons on multi-electrode array (MEA) chips.
- Experience mentoring both undergraduate and graduate scholars.
- Experience in leading a team of trainees and technical staff.
