**Role: Converting Department Assistant Foreman**

**Position**: The Converting Department Assistant Foreman will be responsible for the supervision, direction, and leadership in safety, quality, and productivity.

**Responsibilities and Duties Include**:

- Supervise employees in the daily production of converted paperboard, to include training, planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating employee performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; promoting safety, quality production and teamwork; resolving conflicts.
- Lead and motivate employees by setting an example of superior behavior, attitude and performance to work efficiently and effectively, while ensuring a safe work environment, and a quality product.
- Effectively communicate operational information in both oral and written format at all levels: crew members, other supervisors, plant management, office personnel and outside customers and vendors.
- Actively promote and ensure compliance with safety, quality and other programs and initiatives utilized within the organization.
- Manage Department supplies (adhesives, knives, lubricants)
- Full understanding of all Converting department machinery including Pasters, Mill Trimmers, Rotary Slitters, Round Corner Cutters, and Liners - Set-up, operations, troubleshooting and maintenance.

**Supervisory Responsibilities**:

- Safe operation / proper work habits of all equipment - Emphasis on blade changing procedures.
- Proper set up and operation of all dept. machinery
- Examples: Mill Trimmers - correct micro cut programs. Rotary Slitters / Roda - Proper Slitter and cross-cut set-up.
- Requisite timely maintenance - Include inspection, lubrication, adjustments, wear component replacement.
- Demonstrate how to work efficiently and safely - Particularly with temporary workforce.
- Develop and lead weekly Safety Tailgate Meetings.
- Review Production requirements from sales / production dept. personnel.
- Scheduling / forecasting
- Assign / Allocate personnel from all three areas (Mill, Lining and US converting) to achieve maximum quality production. Collaborate with sub-foremen.
- Establish performance metrics and evaluation reports for all personnel to facilitate best use of workforce.
- Timely review / surveillance of all three work areas.
- Discipline Personnel as required - Maintain detailed records of verbal and written warnings about safe work habits, cooperation with teammates, quality production.
- Manage workload to maximize quality yield - for example better to keep crew over for a period to complete a job than be left with a small portion the following day - in short, eliminate inefficiency.

**Quality Control**:

- Inspect all in-coming paperboard for size, caliper, color, finish and moisture. Evaluate if within specification. Immediately apprise sales / production if there is an issue.
- Inspect / evaluate adhesives - both purchased and in-house cooked. Verify viscosity as well as solids level. Troubleshoot as needed.
- Strategize / troubleshoot for problem board. Examples: Creatively Work around out
- of
- square or mínimal trim (Undersized) board. Modify adhesive to accommodate high moisture board.
- Final inspection of completed products for size, squareness, complete lamination, cleanliness of cuts, neat and correct piling.

**Maintenance**:

- Properly maintain all rolling stock including correct battery electrolyte level in both electric forklifts and hand jacks before charging.
- Repair all department machinery, conferring with the Maintenance Department and outside support as needed (Hopkins, Lopez, Colter and Peterson).
- Maintain proper inventory of required spares including knives, slitters, backing strips, Paster Rolls, High Pressure
- Inventory Adhesive components - keep buying apprised of changes in demands. Verify incoming shipment weights.
- Keep all three work areas neat and organized. Include periodic shutdowns and full department cleaning.
