**Summary**:
- To ensure that students with disabilities receive a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations in his/her assigned schools by overseeing district special education programming.
**Qualifications**:
**Certification/License**- Professional Educator License with General Administrative Endorsement-
- 5 years successful teaching experience with students with special education needs-
- Completion of the teacher evaluation certification**Responsibilities**:
- Demonstrates leadership within the field of special education
- Collaboratively works with others to improve student outcomes
- Capacity to problem solve and make firm decisions in areas of responsibility and delegate responsibility to members of the special education staff.
- Knowledge of best practices in the field of special education.
- Ability and disposition to work effectively and cooperatively with students, parents, and school personnel.
- Communicates changes, updates, policies and procedures to staff
- In collaboration with administration, creates and revises procedures for the Student Services Department
- Commitment to collaborative leadership to provide clear, consistent and compliant information about instruction to support students with IEPs.
- Evaluate the curriculum, teaching and services being provided to all students with an IEP and/or a 504 plan.
- Support staff for any meetings related to a student’s IEP.
- Establishes and maintains procedures for record keeping and coordinates placement of eligible pupils in special education classes
- Strong knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations governing special education and education in general and works with the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services to ensure compliance
- In collaboration with staff evaluates student progress toward IEP goals and objectives using data
- Serve as the LEA role as needed.
- Provide effective professional development to support special education and general education staff.
- Communicate with staff, parents/guardians, and administration regarding least restrictive environment (LRE), student placements and continuum of services.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Assists in the supervision and evaluation of all special education licensed staff and classified staff.
- Supports the administration and staff with crisis management
- Active member of school and district committees.
