Urban Agriculture Coordinator

**Position Information**:
**Specific duties include**:

- Developing the strategic direction of the Urban Agriculture Program by developing goals, policies, procedures, and performance measures, including promoting local economic development and activity in the urban agriculture sector;
- Overseeing the Urban Agriculture Program to improve performance, provide exceptional customer experiences, and meet expectations of organizational policies, procedures, planning documents, performance measures, and County leadership;
- Managing staff and the Urban Agriculture Program Budget;
- Liaising between the Urban Agriculture Program and internal/external stakeholders including media requests, public meetings, volunteer events, presentations, educational programs, report writing, FOIA responses, and general inquiries;
- Promoting community engagement with urban agriculture through the support of community groups and volunteer activities. Working with regional groups to promote urban initiatives through improved coordination and educational conferences and forums;
- Developing and delivering urban agricultural educational programming such as classes and camps within DPR and with outside partners;
- Managing Arlington County’s Community Garden Program, including program development and implementation, garden plot registration, facility maintenance, and conflict resolution;
- Managing the County-owned Arlington Farmers Market contract while liaising with and supporting multiple existing and prospective privately run farmers markets and relevant regulatory agencies;
- Formulating or reviewing municipal code, County policies, and State legislation for impacts to Urban Agriculture in both the public and private sector;
- Advancing Arlington County’s urban agriculture goals through participation in regional planning and advocacy groups such as the Metro Washington Council of Governments Agriculture Working Group, Food and Agriculture Regional Members Committee, Virginia Farmers Market Association, Virginia Fresh Match, Virginia Urban Agriculture Summit Committee, and others.
- Ability to read technical materials, problem-solving skills to solve vaguely defined problems, and public presentation skills to engage diverse audiences in diverse settings;
- Writing skills to prepare reports, proposals, procedures, policies, recommendations, etc;
- Interpersonal skills to educate, motivate, persuade, or manage others, provide exceptional customer experiences, and liaise effectively with people and organizations;
- Basic Arithmetic skills to add, subtract, multiply, divide and calculate percentages for the purposes of budgeting; and
- Organizational skills to manage a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and obligations.

**Selection Criteria**:
**Minimum**:

- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Food Science, Public/Business Administration, or related field; and
- Considerable program administration experience in urban agriculture, agricultural education, or related area.

**Substitution**: Additional experience can substitute for the educational requirement. A Master's degree or higher can substitute for some experience.

- Working with community groups, including farmers markets and community gardens;
- Supervising staff/volunteers and managing budgets;
- Urban agricultural educational programming; and
- Proficiency including using Microsoft Office suite.

**Special Requirements**:
The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of the applicant's official driving record. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.


**Additional Information**:
**Work Hours**: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with occasional weekend work as needed.
