**General Statement**:
The Assistant Supervisor of Night Camp is an ambassador and educator for the Phoenix Zoo. This position works with the Camp Supervisor to manage the day-to-day operations of Night Camp as well as Animal Discovery programs, such as birthday parties, special ACNC/Zoo and education events. This position assists with staff scheduling, hiring, training, motivating and evaluating. Additionally, they ensure exceptional standards of guest service and efficient program logistics through organized administration systems, developing curriculum and facilitating programs.

This position requires a flexible and varied schedule that includes: weekdays, weekends (Saturdays), late evenings during Night Camp season (Wed-Thurs from Oct-May), special events (daytime and evening), occasional overnights and occasional holidays.

**Essential Duties**:

- Provide quality guest service to both internal and external guests by maintaining a WILD (friendly, helpful, positive and professional) working attitude and appearance.
- Assist in supervising the day-to-day operations of Night Camps, as well as Animal Discovery programs, such as birthday parties, special ACNC/Zoo and education events. Act as the main point of contact for Night Camp (and occasionally Camp Zoo) when the supervisor is not present.
- Provide logístical support for a team of 30-35 Instructors.
- Assist with hiring and onboarding, as well as the development and facilitation of orientation and training for new instructors. Assist in the planning and facilitation of staff meetings for existing camp instructors.
- Assist in assessing, evaluating and working towards strengthening Night Camp staff and program offerings.
- Design inquiry-based curricula for groups, which contributes to the development of high-quality programs and experiences for all guests.
- Create and maintain organized, detail-oriented processes and systems for camp logistics and communication.
- Maintain ability to serve in the role of Instructor I, II, and III and facilitate camp programs as needed.
- Coordinate communication about program needs to other departments (Food Services, Events, Living Collections, Grounds Quality, Guides, Call Center, Marketing/PR, and Operations).
- Maintain accurate program records, protocols and training manuals.
- Order and stock supplies, food, and materials for Night Camp in accordance with the Learning and Engagement budget.
- Maintain Animal Handling Certification; responsible for knowing and abiding by proper handling, transportation, presentation, and interaction protocols for a diverse collection of animals in preparation for and during programs. After completing animal handling training, must be able to pass a written and practical test to certify. Must re-certify each year to maintain animal handling certification.
- Serve on the Learning and Engagement Leadership Team to help forward department strategic initiatives, ensure collaboration and consistency across the department and model for and mentor department staff.
- As a secondary responsibility, support the Camp Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor of Day Camps with Camp Zoo responsibilities as needed.

- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree in science or education preferred.
- Able to perform in both a team environment as well as in a solitary setting.
- Friendly, responsible, and enthusiastic. Maintains a positive and respectful attitude with guests and teammates.
- Demonstrated leadership and guest service experience in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem solving experience and the ability to make decisions and communicate in a calm, professional manner during a high-stress situation.
- Can effectively and respectfully communicate with a diverse audience and teammates (including all age levels, cultures, neurodiversity, and level of abilities).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organization skills, and detail-oriented work style.
- Bi-lingual English-Spanish preferred.
- Experience presenting to a range of audience sizes and ages, including early childhood through adult.
- Knowledge of child development and program specific academic, benchmarking, and/or best practices standards.
