The Dietetic Technician will assist with the operation of all the kitchens and dining rooms in the facility to provide nutritious, well-prepared food for patients and staff. The Dietetic Technician will also develop diets as appropriate for patients according to their medical needs.

**Responsibilities**:

- Coordinates all dietary activities in the facility, acting through the Food Service Director, Dietary Technicians, and Cooks.
- In coordination with the Food Services Director, plans and presents monthly in-service programs for dietary staff; conducts training sessions for other departments.
- Supervises the development of specialized diets using appropriate dietary modifications where necessary; supervises menu planning for special functions.
- Surveys food preparation and distribution for safe practices ensuring variety, adequate seasoning, visual appeal, proper temperature, and appropriate portion sizes.
- Provides all clinical services including nutritional assessments and documentation, MDS assessments and Care Plans, and facility weight management.
- Cooperates with the purchasing department to provide high-quality food at the most economical price.
- Works with the food committee to receive constructive ideas and suggestions and to provide education to patients and their families.
- Counsels patients, families, and staff about requirements; handles complaints and resolves problems.
- Develops patient care plans on behalf of the dietary department; attends care-planning conferences and interdisciplinary meetings.
- Assess patients’ and clients’ nutritional and health needs.
- Counsel patients on nutrition issues and healthy eating habits.
- Evaluate the effects of meal plans and change the plans as needed.
- Document patients’ progress.
- Promote better health by speaking to groups about diet, nutrition, and the relationship between good eating habits and preventing or managing specific diseases.
- Create educational materials about healthy food choices.
- Keep up with or contribute to the latest food and nutritional science research.
- Performs other duties as directed.

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor’s degree in the field of dietetics with courses in food preparation and service.
- RD credentials earned by a pass on the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) exam.
- Completion of a dietetic internship.
- State license required. Accreditation by the American Dietetic Association preferred.
