**Description**:
The intensive supervision juvenile probation officer reports directly to the court unit supervisor, in his/her absence to the assistant unit supervisor and ultimately to the chief juvenile probation officer. The intensive supervision officer will maintain a small but very specialized caseload of probationers that will be required to report in more frequently than the usual probationer. The intensive supervision officer will have to keep accurate accounts of the juvenile probationer’s progress and be prepared to apprehend via directives those probationers that fail to meet the strict requirements of this specialized probation by performing the following duties.

**Example of Duties**:
Regular attendance is required;
Supervises an assigned caseload;
Addresses issues of non-compliance with relative to juveniles and parents orders;
Monitors special conditions of probation including, but not limited to, community service restitution, counseling, and drug screening etc;
Files court action as needed;
Testifies during official court proceedings;
Takes juveniles into custody, utilizing mechanical restraints and approved physical restraint techniques when required;
Compiles monthly statistics regarding work activity;
Maintains monthly intensive supervision logs;
Assists in transporting juveniles to court, detention hearings, placements and other needed appointments;
Serves court summons and directives as ordered;
Generates comprehensive well written court reports and detention hearing documents necessary for court proceedings and court ordered placement;
Maintains updated juvenile files;
Enters and utilizes the juvenile case management system, risk assessment software, criminal justice information system data related to dispositions etc;
Interacts with outside agencies that may have referrals on juveniles referred to us such as DFPS; Police Agencies; Counseling etc;
Keeps current with all probationer progress reports;
Directly monitors the intensive supervision probationers by watching their activities within the community, utilizing electronic monitoring technology;
Maintains required contact with probationers;
Participates in the on call schedule and fulfills associated duties;
Maintains 70 hours biannually of approved training to maintain juvenile probation officer certification;
Performs other duties as assigned.

**EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE**:
**Required**:

- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology or a behavioral science;
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a certified juvenile probation/supervision officer; or - 2 years working directly with incarcerated population with mental health needs or in an educations setting.

**Preferred**:

- Master’s Degree in a social service area with 1 year experience as a certified juvenile probation and supervision officer.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; and ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; and ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, attorneys, judges, customers, and the general public.
**MATHEMATICAL SKILLS**:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; and ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
**REASONING ABILITY**:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and ability to interpret an extensive variety of information and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
**CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS**:
Valid Texas Driver’s License and proof of liability coverage.

Possess good problem solving skills, have the ability to work effectively with people, and be prepared to deal with crisis situations.
