**Reports to**: JFK PrincipalJob Goal: To maintain, locate and utilize resources for students and staff, work collaboratively with teachers to reinforce instructional initiatives, and provide direct instruction to students. Qualifications: 1) Must meet all licensure and highly qualified requirements as set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Education (Library Media Specialist, all levels and/or Elementary Teacher License)2) Prior successful experience in a public school library/media center and in a classroom setting at the elementary level.Performance Responsibilities: 1. Shows respect, consideration and fairness to students of varying learning levels.2. Meets the needs of students with special interests, abilities, and learning problems.3.

Gives students personal help and positive reinforcement.4. Challenges students to think and express their thoughts through library related activities.5. Helps students set achievement expectations and evaluate their own progress.6. Makes clear to students what they are learning and why.7.

Includes culturally diverse themes in lessons and instruction, including historical or other information as to cultures having significant impact on the world, nation or community.8. Plans instruction for the Library curriculum.9. Uses tests and/or other evaluative information in planning instructional units and after instruction to determine if goals have been met.10. Uses instruments and methods that effectively measure the students' attainment of learning goals.11.

Makes clear to students how success in learning will be judged.12. Recommends student-level literature and encourages students reading for pleasure and learning.13. Teaches developmentally appropriate informational literacy skills to all students.14. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the library 15.

Fosters a creative, flexible library environment that promotes a love of reading and lifelong learning for all students16. Catalogs all library materials; maintains an inventory of books.17. Offers assistance to teachers in the selection and use of informational resources.18. Stays current in professional practices and educational research19.

Requests library supplies and books within the parameters of the budget.Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually, in accordance with accepted district guidelines/procedures in alignment with state mandates and expectations.Terms Of Employment: 182 days per year
