**Definition**:
**Definition**: Under general supervision from the Journey to Recovery Supervisor assist in providing evaluation, monitoring, and assistance for psychiatric and/or intoxicated clients with chemical dependency problems. Provides medically monitored services in a safe, secure and supportive environment. Monitors clients with the Q15 and CIWA process and administers critical client care and referral for medical and/or emergency treatment when necessary. Also assists in the discharge planning process from the Withdrawal Management or Crisis Stabilization setting. Works closely with the Nurse Manager, nursing team and WM Supervisor regarding patient observation and care including medication monitoring, client safety, admission testing and screening. **This job class is treated as FLSA Non-Exempt. This is a driving position.**

**Essential functions**:Essential functions may vary among positions and may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. **Examples of Tasks**:

- 1. Assists in the interview, screening and evaluation of clients according to the established Intake process. Coordinates care with medical team.

2. Observes client for possible injuries, illnesses, or ongoing medical needs. Refers clients to a medical clinic for emergency care or regular medical treatment when necessary.

3. Records client medication dosage and medicine data, including:

- Counts and records the number of pills in each bottle on the Medication Inventory Form, brought into the facility during the client’s stay.
- Keeps all medications safely locked in the medication cabinet and maintaining a weekly count of all medication by recording on the Medication Monitoring Sheet.
- Distributes medication to the client as prepared by the WM Supervisor from pharmacy/medical records and documents the date, time and number of each pill given on the Medication Administration Record.
- Consults with the WM Supervisor on any issues or observations of possible reactions of medication.

4. In conjunction with RN/MA or medical staff, oversees two to six (2-6) clients in the withdrawal management or crisis stabilization unit. Maintains vigilance over client’s supervision, wellbeing and safety.

5. Provides basic role modeling to clients with psychiatric or chemical dependency problems during their stay.

6. Coordinates care with outside stakeholders, families and patient adult recovery team.

7. Attends ongoing training and participates in prevention and intervention community awareness events.

8. Performs all required administrative tasks associated with the intake and service provision process:

- Types correspondence and makes photocopies as needed
- Completes all intake forms and facility documents as required.
- Helps assess the need for facility supplies and completes requisitions for food/non-food items.
- Maintains upkeep of the Journey to Recovery facility as required by program regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, sweeping and mopping the floors plus changing sheets on the facility beds, etc.

9. Performs other job duties as assigned by the supervisor to maintain and enhance program operation.

10. Facilitates groups on the unit for recovery, relapse prevention and early recovery treatment as needed.

**Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics**:

- Knowledge of the culture, customs, traditions and history of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
- Knowledge of Universal Precautions, First-Aid methods and CPR techniques.
- Knowledge of Recovery Principles, Motivational Interviewing and Medication Assisted Treatment
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, chronic medical illnesses and their basic symptoms.
- Knowledge of patient rounding, patient supervision, following physician orders and self-assistance with medication administration.
- Knowledge and acceptance of harm reduction principles in recovery.
- Knowledge of mental health conditions, the effects of alcohol consumption and their long-term effects.
- Knowledge of the withdrawal management, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of basic de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques
- Knowledge of basic computer software including MS Office, Excel, and SharePoint.
- Skill working in a detox, crisis stabilization or substance abuse withdrawal unit
- Skill following complex verbal and written instructions, policies and procedures.
- Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with the clients, SRPMIC staff and the public.
- Skill operating a variety of standard office equipment including photocopiers, FAX machines, printers, scanner and copier to fulfill job requirements.
