The Town of Falmouth is seeking a Temporary Herring Technician to work for our Marine & Environmental Sciences (MES) Department to perform skilled and manual work on the Town's nine (9) herring and American eel runs. This position works 20-24 hours per week as needed on a temporary basis.

Under the direction of the Herring Warden, the Temporary Herring Technician performs duties including, but not limited to: performs construction, mobilization, maintenance, and demobilization of equipment to be used in the Town's herring and eel runs; ensures adequate passage of anadromous and catadromous fisheries runs; performs herring monitoring and surveys as required; coordinates sand removal after storms; organizes volunteers to conduct finfish habitat enhancement projects, and monitors weather patterns and storms events for the purpose of herring and eel passage.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in environmental management, law enforcement, or environmental science fieldwork; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicants must also have a valid MA driver’s license and be able to provide their own transportation to and from work sites. Approximately 90% of the work is performed outdoors, on the water, or in the field, and there may be some exposure to hazards, including severe weather conditions.

The pay for this position is $23.02/hour for the first season of employment.
