Job Title: Area Medical Assistant - Urgent Care and Medical Weight Loss
Reports to: Center Manager

Exer’s mission is “creating convenient access to ER doctors in an affordable and caring environment.” Exer can take care of about 80% of the procedures being handled in the ER today at a fraction of the price and in a much more comfortable setting with shorter wait times. We are passionate about creating a better healthcare, and this starts with our Medical Assistants who are usually the first point of contact with our patients.
Job Summary
The Medical Assistant plays a key role in delivering both administrative support and performing clinical duties such as assisting in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a provider. This role has the additional responsibility of being the key person to medical professional to represent and administer our Medical Weight Loss program to help people lead healthier lives. This program is designed to help people reach their weight goals as well as other important health indicators through 1:1 coaching and a customized nutrition program with weekly lipotropic B12 injections and appetite suppressants (for those who qualify).
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Medical Assistant
- Patient Care
- Rooms and interviews patients to understand current medical issue as well as medical history; and takes vital signs (e.g. O2 saturation, pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, height, and measurements)
- Preps patients for examination and treatment, and assists during procedures including the positioning of all instruments and equipment
- Sets up and assists physician with all procedures such as, but not limited to: levels, minor surgery, splinting, pelvic exams, nebulizer treatments, skin tag, mole removals, etc.
- Performs venipunctures, EKG, visual acuity checks and ear irrigation as needed
- Performs Sub-Q, IM, and Intradermal injections of authorized medication as ordered by the provider and following routine standing orders
- Accurately calls in prescriptions and dispenses medication based on provider’s orders as needed
- Performs routine laboratory tests, QC and sending samples to labs
- Maintains accurate and complete records by updating the patients’ medical chart
- Through genuine and positive communication, makes each patient (and their family as appropriate) feel informed, understood, and special while delivering care with urgency
- Clinic Support
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments and room per guidelines
- Keys data into EMR/forms to maintain accurate office and patient records
- Chart auditing, CPT, and proper use of ICD-10
- Cleans and packages instruments for autoclaving and operates the autoclave
- Performs accurate quality control and patient sample testing for waived tests
- Works collaboratively with regional Lab assistant to maintain all lab equipment and testing kits per manufacturer guidelines
- Supports the clinical team by maintaining quality controls for in house laboratory testing
- Supports Provider with the EMR and Lab workflow
- Works collaboratively with the clinical team to maintain the inventory of all supplies, medication, and equipment necessary for the operation of the clinic
- Maintains reference lab binder to ensure all specimens result in a timely manner
- Any other tasks to support daily clinical operations
- Medical Weight Loss
- Works closely with Medical Weight Loss program treating physician(s) to develop and administer the weight loss program whose aim is to help people lead healthier lives through important metrics including not only weight and body fat but also glucose, lipid profile, and blood pressure levels
- Serves as key medical professional to meet weekly with each patient and understand their needs; monitor their health and progress; and provide individualized consultation to achieve patient goals within the timing of each appointment
- Understands and educates on nutritional plans per provider’s instructions and makes necessary adjustment based on provider’s recommendations
- Performs all checklists, procedures and documentation for the medical weight loss program (must also learn specialty equipment)
- Dispenses medication per provider’s orders
- Maintains and coordinates scheduling with physician and assists with all patient visits
- Generates revenue through assisting with recruitment efforts; maintaining patients in the program; recommending oral and injectable supplements to augment program and help patients reach goals
