Overview:

HJF is seeking a** Research Associate I **whose work will involve performance of a variety of laboratory tasks related to understanding the enteric pathogens_ Campylobacter jejuni _and Enterotoxigenic_ Escherichia coli. _The Research Associate I will perform technical work involving a variety of immunological assays and other laboratory support duties. These may include data acquisition, data analysis and assist in the interpretation of data. This position will be in support of the Operationally Relevant Infections Department, specifically in the Deployment Associated Infections Division.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

**Responsibilities**:

- Performs immunological assays, including ELISA and flow cytometry.
- Handles small animals in a BSL-2 environment.
- Plans, conducts, and completes investigations under supervision.
- Assists with the writing and editing of experimental results for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals.
- Performs routine data analysis and verifies and corrects data entry.
- Maintains records and documentation regarding assigned research.
- Documents current or new procedures or protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or statistical estimation.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications:
***Education and Experience**
- Master’s Degree required, preferable in Biology, Immunology, or any Life Science field.
- Minimum of 0-2 years’ experience required.

**Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Knowledge of basic immunological laboratory procedures.
- Experience working with bacteria such as E. Coli and C. Jejuni is prefered.
- Ability to meet deadlines of projects.
- Good communication and critical thinking skills.
- Animal handling experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.
- This position requires you to have lived in the US for three out of the past five years.

**Work Environment**
- This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
