Job Description
Job Summary:
Manage assessment needs of the student body and the organization of educational, social and cultural activities.
Job-Specific Responsibilities:
Programming and Events
- Oversee the development and implementation of an intersectional array of programs and events which account for students’ developmental needs.
- Develop ongoing mechanisms for feedback from current undergraduates and from alumni to inform program development and implementation.
- Share responsibility for budget oversight for programs and events.
- Collaborate with campus partners and act as liaison to other DSO and College offices and programs responsible for student organization, advising, planning and events, etc.
- Develop learning outcomes and collect and assess program data.
- Provide programmatic leadership and administrative direction of Harvard Foundation space in Sever Hall.
- Serve as administrative lead for and advisor to the First-Year International Program, a pre-orientation program for international students and U.S. students who have lived overseas.
- Support Woodbridge students in their community building efforts.
- In partnership with Program Manager for Military Students, provide leadership and support for military and veteran students.
Residential Staff Training
- Collaborate with colleagues in the C&C and Residential Life offices who advise and support C&C Proctors and Tutors in addressing emergent, sensitive issues in the residences.
- Support the work to identify and coordinate additional training opportunities for Proctors and Tutors and help to foster increased collaboration between the C&C team, Harvard Foundation, and Residential staff.
Supervision, Student Advising, and Organization Advising
- Hire, train, and supervise undergraduate and graduate student employees.
- Advise student organizations and conduct leadership development to equip them to advance their missions.
- Represent student views in appropriate arenas and provide continuous feedback between students and the college administration.
- Play a key role in program development that will enhance the College community’s awareness of student and community issues.
- Support capacity‑building for colleagues in other functional areas to ensure deeper awareness of and greater sensitivity to student needs is continually reflected through their work. Make referrals to related resources as needed.
- Other duties as assigned according to the changing needs of the community.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office setting. May be required to work nights and weekends.
The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs and objectives and consistent with College Policy, which requires 5 days on‑site in Cambridge, MA during term time (first day of classes through commencement), with the exception of student breaks. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard‑designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details about the College policy will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting using near vision use for reading and computer use for extended periods of time
- Lifting (approximately 20 to 30 pounds), bending, and other physical exertion
