Principal Automation Engineer, Enterprise Automation Frameworks & Support

Principal Automation Engineer, Enterprise Automation Frameworks & Support is a senior technical leader responsible for defining, designing, and scaling enterprise-wide test automation strategies, frameworks, platforms, and AI-enabled quality engineering capabilities. This role serves as the enterprise automation authority across Humana's business segments, partnering closely with Engineering, Architecture, DevOps, Product, and Quality Engineering teams to accelerate software delivery through modern automation and intelligent quality practices. This individual will be responsible for designing scalable automation solutions leveraging technologies such as Selenium, Playwright, REST Assured, Tricentis Tosca, Azure DevOps (ADO), qTest, API automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and AI-powered testing agents, while enabling delivery teams to achieve greater speed, reliability, and quality. This role serves as a senior technical leader, providing hands-on engineering expertise and strategic direction to deliver scalable, high-quality software solutions. The Principal Software Engineer drives engineering standards, promotes reusable platforms and frameworks, and partners across the enterprise to accelerate innovation, enable modernization, and ensure consistent, reliable, and secure technology solutions across Humana.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Automation Strategy Automation Framework Engineering & Platform Enablement AI-Powered Quality Engineering & Intelligent Testing DevOps, CI/CD & Engineering Excellence Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field. 10+ years of software quality engineering, automation engineering, SDET, or software engineering experience. 8+ years of hands-on experience designing and implementing enterprise automation frameworks. Deep expertise with automation technologies including: Selenium, Playwright, Tricentis Tosca, Cypress, Appium, API Automation frameworks Extensive experience with Azure DevOps (ADO), qTest, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices. Strong programming skills in languages such as Java, C#, TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, or similar. Experience implementing automation solutions for web, API, microservices, cloud-native, and distributed applications. Strong understanding of Agile, DevOps, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, and Continuous Delivery practices. Excellent communication, leadership, consulting, and stakeholder management skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience in healthcare, insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated industries. Experience implementing AI-driven testing tools and intelligent automation platforms. Experience building AI-based testing agents and autonomous quality engineering solutions. Knowledge of Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and AI-assisted software testing. Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP. Experience leading enterprise-wide quality engineering transformation initiatives. Success Measures Increased enterprise adoption of standardized automation frameworks and automation platforms. Improved automation coverage, execution reliability, and maintenance efficiency across delivery teams. Measurable reduction in manual testing effort through intelligent automation and AI-enabled testing capabilities. Improved software quality through earlier defect detection and enhanced test effectiveness. Successful implementation of AI-powered testing agents and intelligent quality engineering capabilities. Enhanced visibility of quality metrics through actionable dashboards and enterprise reporting. Improved stakeholder satisfaction and business outcomes through scalable quality engineering solutions. Requirements:
To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees' ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested. In certain roles, the minimum recommended internet speed required by Humana may not be sufficient for business needs. Humana reserves the right to require associates to upgrade their internet service if necessary. Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.
