Instructor Position at CT State Community CollegeConnecticut State Community College (CT State) was launched on July 1, 2023, through the consolidation of Connecticut's 12 community colleges. Position Summary: All Teaching Faculty members shall: Prepare and teach college-approved courses in accordance with approved course descriptions and class schedules, including developing syllabi and reading lists and keeping each course taught complete and up to date; respond to and work with multiple constituencies, including students, peers (faculty and staff), and external agencies (business, community, educational, etc.); perform divisional departmental responsibilities in the selection of texts and related teaching resources; and other teaching and related duties as outlined on the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Dean, Department Chair, or other administrator, the Instructor is responsible for teaching thirty (30) credit hours per academic year and delivering a range of courses within the assigned discipline. Courses may be offered in lecture, hybrid, and/or online formats, and teaching schedules may include both day and evening classes.
Key responsibilities
include:Teaching courses within the assigned discipline area in accordance with institutional standardsEvaluating and assessing student learning outcomesProviding student support, mentoring, and academic advisingDeveloping curriculum and periodically reviewing and updating instructional materialsAssisting with program reviews and accreditation-related activitiesPlanning and executing program-related eventsAttending workshops, trainings, and/or professional conferences to maintain currency in the fieldAdditional responsibilities include:Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremoniesService on assigned committees and task forcesAttendance and participation at committee, staff, informational, and professional meetings, which may occur during evenings and weekendsMinimum
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Criminal Justice or a related discipline. Successful Candidate must have or must possess:Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilitiesExcellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsProficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)Preferred
Qualifications:
One (1) or more years' teaching-related college-level courses (24+ credits), preferably at the community college level.
Experience teaching classes in law enforcement, criminal law, corrections, criminal investigations and forensics.
Experience using technology to enhance the learning environment, e.g., Blackboard, online instruction or other modalities/software.
