Position Summary Supervises the daily activities within retina, uveitis, and ophthalmic imaging. Plans, assigns, and reviews work activities. Manages clinical staff to ensure that services are executed to provide the highest level of patient care.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensures their assigned specialties are compliant with all applicable standards and regulations set by Illinois Department of Public Health, the Joint Commission, and the University.
- Oversees the implementation, review, and revision of standard operating procedures.
- Communicates and disseminates general information and policy updates to staff.
- Approves time off and coordinates staff schedules.
- Facilitates initial and ongoing training and evaluation of staff. Fosters a team environment by mentoring and motivating staff.

- Prepares staffing assignments, which includes clinical research study patients, that most effectively aligns staff skillsets with patient and physician needs.
- Interviews, onboards, and orients new imaging staff.
- Manages staff productivity and departmental alignment with quality/operational goals set by ambulatory services administration and the department.
- Key stakeholder in improving patient throughput and overall patient experience.
- Develops and executes quality training programs and facilitates professional development of imaging staff.
- Ensures all imaging equipment is well-maintained, functional, and integrated with systems such as Epic and PACS.
- Performs direct patient care within ophthalmic imaging as needed. Performs direct patient care in other clinical areas as needed.
- Performs duties of an Ophthalmic technician as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Five (5) years (60 months) of work experience performing ophthalmology or optometrist services.
- Certification as an Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology.
- Current valid American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification.
