The Opportunity

A premier, engineering-driven designer and manufacturer of mission-critical power electronics is launching a brand-new commercial division. For more than 50 years, the company has engineered ultra-reliable custom power supplies, converters, and inverters for the most demanding platforms in the U.S. defense and aerospace inventory—from frontline naval weapon systems and nuclear submarines to deep-space exploration platforms.

With deep technical credibility, ITAR registration, and ISO 9001:2015 certification, the organization is now commercializing a breakthrough family of high-efficiency, 800W “half-brick” AC/DC and DC/DC power converters.

We are seeking an entrepreneurial Director of Sales & Business Development to lead this newly forming division from the ground up. Reporting directly to the Owner/CEO, you will hold the keys to the entire commercial growth engine—building the pipeline, establishing distribution channels, leading capture, and scaling market share across industrial, commercial, and Mil-COTS sectors.

What You Will Do

  • Commercialize a New Product Line: Lead the market entry and volume adoption of proprietary 800W high-efficiency half-brick power converters across commercial, industrial, and Mil-COTS markets.
  • Build the Distribution & Rep Network: Identify, recruit, and manage top-tier stocking distributors and independent manufacturer sales rep networks to drive catalog product velocity.
  • Own Strategy & Revenue: Establish and achieve annual bookings and revenue targets, diversifying the company’s business to a balanced 50/50 military and commercial revenue mix.
  • Drive Pipeline & Capture: Prospect and qualify opportunities across prime contractors, Tier-1 system integrators, and commercial OEMs, maintaining an active, disciplined CRM pipeline.
  • Lead Proposal Execution: Direct the end-to-end response for RFIs, RFQs, RFPs, and sources-sought solicitations, instituting disciplined bid/no-bid criteria to maximize win rates.
  • Be the Market Voice: Translate complex technical differentiators into high-converting sales narratives, representing the brand at major trade shows, expos, and industry matchmaking events.
  • Partner Cross-Functionally: Collaborate directly with internal Engineering, Quality, and Operations leaders to scope pursuits accurately, align pricing, and guarantee seamless product delivery.

What You Bring

  • Proven Sales Track Record: 8–10+ years of direct business development and sales experience within commercial/industrial power electronics or related electronic hardware components.
  • Channel Architecture Experience: Demonstrated success building and managing independent sales rep organizations and stocking distributor channels.
  • Defense & Aerospace Acumen: Solid understanding of federal/DoD procurement basics (RFP/RFQ processes, FAR/DFARS standards, competitive vs. sole-source pursuits, and DLA solicitations).
  • Technical Fluency: Ability to interface comfortably between design engineers and technical buyers regarding power supplies, converters, inverters, and power management architectures.
  • Hands-On Execution: An entrepreneurial, roll-up-your-sleeves mentality suited for a lean, agile manufacturer with rapid decision-making cycles and zero bureaucracy.
  • Eligibility: U.S. Citizenship is strictly required due to ITAR regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior leadership experience scaling a commercial division within an established defense manufacturer.
  • Hands-on familiarity with capture methodologies (e.g., Shipley).
  • Established network within prime defense contractors, NAVSEA/naval programs, or volume industrial hardware manufacturers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business, or a related field.

Why Consider This Role?

  • Direct Access & Real Autonomy: Report directly to the CEO with full strategic ownership to build a commercial division from a blank canvas.
  • Elite Technical Backing: Sell a proprietary, cutting-edge 800W power converter backed by a 50-year engineering pedigree and proven operational performance on marquee defense programs.
  • Builder’s Upside: Enjoy the agility and visibility of an independent small business without the red tape of a massive con
