Chicago, IL, United States LaRocque Law Full-time

Litigation Attorney – Family Law

About LaRocque Law

LaRocque Law is a growing Chicago-based family law firm representing clients in divorce, parentage, allocation of parental responsibilities, parenting time, child support, maintenance, relocation, and post-decree matters throughout Cook, DuPage, and Will Counties.

Founded in 2026, we're building a firm that prioritizes quality representation over high-volume caseloads. Our approach is straightforward: develop a strategy, communicate clearly, and move cases forward efficiently. Our clients come to us for practical advice, honest assessments, and attorneys who take ownership of their cases.

We're looking for an attorney who shares that approach and wants to help shape a growing practice.

About the Role

We're hiring an experienced Family Law Litigation Attorney who can independently manage cases from start to finish. This is a hands-on litigation role for someone who enjoys substantive legal work, takes pride in their writing, and is comfortable making strategic decisions.

You'll have your own caseload, direct relationships with clients, and the autonomy to manage your matters. You'll also have an established support team and other attorneys available when you need them.

We're looking for someone who can step into the role and begin handling matters independently from day one.

Why This Role Is Different

  • Practice law. We'll handle the rest.  You won't be expected to sell legal services or generate your own clients. We handle marketing and client acquisition so you can focus on practicing law.
  • A support team that actually supports you.  Our intake team manages scheduling, our phones are answered 24/7, and a full-time Director of Operations oversees billing, systems, and administration. Your focus stays on clients, case strategy, drafting, and court appearances.
  • Autonomy without isolation.  You'll manage your own caseload and have the independence to make decisions. But whether you need court coverage, a second opinion, or someone to work through a complicated issue with, you'll have a team behind you.
  • Systems that make your job easier.  We use Clio, Slack, and established workflows to keep cases organized, communication efficient, and unnecessary administrative work to a minimum.
  • A voice in how the firm grows.  We're building a firm where good ideas matter, regardless of who they come from. You'll have a real opportunity to improve our processes, influence how we operate, and help shape the firm's future.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage a caseload of divorce, parentage, and post-decree matters from initial filing through resolution
  • Appear regularly in Cook, DuPage, and Will County courts for status hearings, contested motions, pretrials, evidentiary hearings, and trials
  • Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery, marital settlement agreements, allocation judgments, and parenting plans
  • Develop litigation strategies, evaluate settlement opportunities, and advise clients on options, risks, and likely outcomes
  • Communicate directly and promptly with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel
  • Maintain accurate and timely billing entries, case notes, and deadlines in Clio
  • Collaborate with attorneys and support staff to keep cases moving efficiently
  • Contribute to refining internal processes as the firm grows

Qualifications

  • Active Illinois law license in good standing
  • Minimum of three years of Illinois family law experience, including independent courtroom experience in Cook County or the collar counties
  • Strong legal research, writing, and drafting skills
  • Ability to independently manage cases, develop strategy, and exercise sound professional judgment
  • Excellent organization, responsiveness, and attention to detail
  • Strong client communication skills, including the ability to provide direct, practical advice during difficult situations
  • A genuine interest in being part of a smaller, growing firm where individual contributions matter

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience litigating contested parenting matters, evidentiary hearings, and trials
  • Experience with financial discovery, dissipation claims, maintenance, and complex property division
  • Familiarity with Clio

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary:  $100,000–$165,000, depending on experience
  • Quarterly performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Client origination bonus op
