Activities Assistant

Responsible for assisting in the planning, developing, organizing, implementing and directing the activity programs to ensure that the spiritual development, emotional, recreational and social needs of the residents are maintained on an individual basis.
Duties:
- Set up and carry out activities as planned by Activity Director
- Clean Activity room between activities
- Go to apartments to invite residents to activities and assist in getting them back to apartments
- Attend Activity Planning meeting with Activity Director
- Assist volunteers with activities
- Assist with cleaning the bus
- Transportation as needed
- Observe residents for changes in condition and report to Activity Director
- Continue all activities in the Absence of the Director
- Help with putting up and taking down of holiday themes
- Notify care staff of nursing needs
- Attend all staff meetings
- Must be able to speak, read and write in the English language.
- Must possess, as a minimum, a high school degree or equivalent.
- One (1) year experience in working with elderly desired.
- Should have creative aptitude for training in arts, crafts and games.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift and transfer residents, using proper body mechanics as needed.

Subject to falls, burns from equipment, infectious diseases, substances, odors, etc., throughout the workday. Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents/patients, family members, personnel, visitors, etc.

Hours:
Thursday + Friday: 12p - 6p
Saturday + Sunday: 10a-6p

- Must be caring and compassionate in dealing with residents as well as staff.
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
- Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, employees and outside contacts.
- Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and government agencies and the general public.
- Possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.
