Job Description ECU Health About ECU Health Medical CenterECU Health Medical Center, one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina, is the 974-bed flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the primary teaching hospital for The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. ECU Health Medical Center has achieved Magnet designation twice and provides acute and intermediate care, rehabilitation and outpatient health services to a 29-county region that is home to more than 1.4 million people.Position Summary The Child Life Specialist II delivers quality patient care utilizing basic clinical skills and knowledge for patients under the ages of 21. He/she is able to foster clinical growth of other staff through educational efforts.Work is with inpatients and outpatients for whom hospital confinement and medical procedures can be threatening and result in social withdrawal, maladjustive behavior, and other pyschosocial adolescents, and families utilizing appropriate developmental approaches while minimizing the negative aspects of hospitalization.Minimum Requirements College Degree (4 yrs.)- or higher. BS/BA in Child Development, Child Life, or related field is required.Child Life Certification is required.Demonstration of competency in basic Child Life practice and mastery in the use of therapeutic play and interventions, Maintains certification as available as a Certified Child Life Specialist through the Child Life Certifying Commission, BS/BA in Child Development, Child Life, or related field, Strong knowledge in child development and current development theories and research and the impact of hospitalization on children and families, Ability to establish rapport with patients, families, physicians, students, volunteers, staff, and public, Interest in children, ability to deal with chronically-ill children and experience with medical play is desired, Maintains Clinical Ladder Level for Child Life Specialist II as stated in Clinical Ladder Policy and Procedure2 - 4 years of experience required.Other Information #LI-EJ1General Statement It is the goal of ECU Health and its entities to employ the most qualified individual who best matches the requirements for the vacant position.Offers of employment are subject to successful completion of all pre-employment screenings, which may include an occupational health screening, criminal record check, education, reference, and licensure verification.We value diversity and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
