Senior Internal Auditor Consultant

Title: Senior Internal Auditor Consultant Company: Real Estate Investment Industry Compensation: $40-50/hr --- Job Summary The Internal Audit function delivers independent, objective assurance and advisory services that strengthen operational effectiveness by identifying and mitigating risk. Using a systematic and disciplined approach, the team evaluates and enhances risk management, internal controls, and governance processes. Internal Audit supports leadership and the board's audit committee in fulfilling their oversight responsibilities by performing comprehensive reviews and recommending improvements across business areas. The function typically reports functionally to the audit committee and administratively within the finance organization. --- Key Responsibilities Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance * Perform testing and analysis to assess the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls. * Maintain SOX risk and control matrices, mapping controls to objectives and related financial reporting assertions. * Update and maintain process documentation, including narratives and flowcharts, in alignment with SOX compliance standards. * Communicate testing approach, timelines, findings, and identified deficiencies to senior leadership and external auditors. --- Qualifications * 3+ years of internal or external audit experience, including SOX controls testing. * Strong understanding of internal controls and the ability to evaluate control adequacy in relation to regulatory and business risks. * Ability to build effective working relationships and maintain a solid understanding of organizational operations. * High ethical standards, sound judgment, and demonstrated integrity. * Self-driven with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments within established deadlines. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint. * Quick learner with strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to provide timely, risk-balanced guidance. * Experience as a staff auditor within a public-company environment. * Hands-on experience preparing audit workpapers. * Audit testing experience, particularly related to internal controls and SOX compliance. * Background in the real estate industry preferred * CPA designation or active progress toward CPA certification preferred Vaco by Highspring values a diverse workplace and strongly encourages women, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, members of ethnic minorities, foreign-born residents, and veterans to apply.
