Nature of Work

The employee in this classification is tasked with work as the civilian supervisor and representative of the Police Department to the public schools in the City of Miami Beach. The School Resource Program Coordinator ("SRPC") is responsible for supervising the School Crossing Guards and the day to day traffic safety operations at all the City's public schools. The SRPC will report directly to and receive direction from the Sergeant of the Police Department Intelligence Unit. The SRPC is subject to close review for compliance with departmental standards, objectives, and Miami-Dade School's applicable policies and procedures, through reports, personal inspection, and regular meetings.
Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties
  • Supervises and monitors the daily performance of School Crossing Guards at their assigned schools.
  • Monitors all City public schools on a daily basis and ensures adequate coverage.
  • Ensures strict compliance with work schedules and department guidelines.
  • Responsible for daily time sheet entries into the City's payroll management system and perform payroll functions pertaining to the same.
  • Responsible for annual performance evaluations for all School Crossing Guards.
  • Meets regularly with the Police Department School Resource Officers and updates them with any and all issues related to the City's Public School.
  • Advise the Sergeant of the Police Department Intelligence Unit of any issues or concerns related to the City's public schools.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma or its equivalent
  • Ten years of full-time verifiable experience in law enforcement
  • Possess a valid driver license with acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements
  • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processor, calculator, copier, and fax machine
  • No significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, or kneeling
  • Some crawling, reaching, and handling sitting, standing, pushing and pulling

  • Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach

Benefits are available to FULL-TIME employees only. The City of Miami Beach offers a comprehensive benefits package, including 12 vacation, 12 sick days, 15 paid holidays (11 holidays and 4 floating holidays); partially sponsored by the City group medical (including visual) and dental insurance, life insurance. Excellent retirement plan: pre-tax employee contribution added to the City's contribution; 5 year "cliff vesting."

Voluntary Benefits (fully paid by the employee, but payroll deductible): flexible spending account; 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, and Roth IRA; universal and critical life insurance, disability insurance, long-term care, and lump sum cancer policy. Also, U.S. Legal Services, tuition assistance, pre-tax payroll contributions, continuation of medical and dental coverage up to 18 months upon termination (COBRA).
