THE POSITION The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a dedicated Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 to provide essential treatment, counseling, and support services to inmates at the State Correctional Institution at Chester. In this role, you will play a vital part in promoting rehabilitation, reducing recidivism, and supporting incarcerated individuals as they work toward recovery and successful reentry. Start your public service career with our experienced team of professionals DESCRIPTION OF WORK As a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1, you will play a crucial role in the care and treatment of inmates struggling with drug and alcohol dependence. You will be working closely with individuals as you conduct initial assessment interviews, make preliminary recommendations for programming needs, conduct individual and group therapy, as well as monitor or coordinate self-help groups. You will also be responsible for maintaining case files and completing discharge, classification, and parole summaries. Within this position, you will have the opportunity to learn how to utilize progressive disciplinary measures to address inmate behavioral deficiencies and participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings to promote consistent communication of treatment plans. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,436.00 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience as a Corrections Counselor or Social Worker (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or One year of para-professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor"; or One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences; or A master's degree with major course work in addictions science, psychology or social work; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences. Other Requirements: Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. You must meet the PA residency requirement.
