Lawyering Skills is a two semester, six-unit course that satisfies the Law School's 1L experiential course requirement for graduation, described below.

The full-year Visiting Professor of Lawyering Skills will teach the following courses:

  1. Fall Semester: One section of Lawyering Skills I. In the fall semester, the focus is teaching skills that all lawyers use, such as client counseling and interviewing, legal analysis and communication, and extensive legal research.

This includes particular attention on written and oral advocacy as well as fact investigation, contract drafting, and negotiation. Over the course of the two semesters, all students will have gained experience conducting intake interviews of actual clients of local public interest organizations. Legal research will continue to be emphasized.

The fall semester Visiting Professor of Lawyering Skills will teach the following course(s):

  1. One section of Lawyering Skills I. In the fall semester, the focus is teaching skills that all lawyers use, such as client counseling and interviewing, legal analysis and communication, and extensive legal research.
