Position Overview:

We are seeking a Project Engineer to support the LA Metro Bus Rapid Transit Project. The ideal candidate will have 1 to 5 years of experience in construction project engineering, with a focus on document control, submittal tracking, and contract administration. This role is essential in assisting the Construction Manager and ensuring that all project documentation and coordination efforts align with LACMTA requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Document Control & Submittal Management:
  • Review, track, process, and distribute submittals, RFIs, RFCs, design submittals, shop drawings, product data, and work plans.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of construction documents and maintain organized project records.
  • Receive, record, and compile review comments while maintaining a log of submittals and deliverables.
  • Provide regular updates on the status of submittals and RFIs during project progress meetings.
  • Project Coordination & Engineering Support:
  • Maintain progress prints of all project drawings and specifications, including scope drawings, contract drawings, AFC drawings, shop drawings, and contract specifications.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with project schedule, budget, safety standards, and legal requirements.
  • Develop and maintain spreadsheets, logs, and project tracking tools.
  • Utilize Primavera Contract Management Software (PCM) or other project management tools for document tracking.
  • Technical & Compliance Support:
  • Assist in preparing work plans, technical reports, feasibility studies, and cost estimates.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, safety guidelines, and maintenance/training requirements.
  • Review regulatory codes, rules, and regulations to ensure project compliance.
  • Interpret contract specifications, building codes, and safety orders to assist project teams.
  • Coordination with External Agencies & Field Support:
  • Collaborate with LACMTA, contractors, and external agencies to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Assist in coordinating Worksite Traffic Control Plans to maintain safe and effective construction operations.
  • Maintain project files, correspondence, and reports, ensuring compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 1 to 5 years of experience in construction engineering, document control, or project coordination within horizontal construction projects (transit, highways, or civil infrastructure).
  • Experience performing Construction cost modeling & estimating highly desired
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Primavera Contract Management (PCM), and database management.
  • Strong understanding of contract administration, submittals, and project documentation processes.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to interface with construction managers, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with LACMTA policies, procedures, and Metro construction project standards is a plus.
