The Information Technology Bureau (ITB) is to provide all members of the New York City Police Department with the most advanced technology available in order to enhance operational performance and promote personal safety. The use of technology in law enforcement contributes to officer effectiveness and efficiency and is to the benefit of all citizens of the City of New York. The Administrative Division advances the Bureau's mission, vision and values by providing administrative support and operational oversight to all ITB divisions.
Job Responsibilities
Plans creative approaches and production of maps, books, pamphlets, annual reports, posters, presentations, ceremonial invitations and certificates and displays in buildings and structures.
Selects media and process to be used.
Selects and specifies, for printed material, type, paper and ink.
Estimates job costs for various printing processes.
Orders appropriate engravings.
Selects applicable bindings.
Depicts, by means of illustrative renderings, proposed buildings and structures.
Interprets complex statistical reports and data in the form of charts and diagrammatic drawings in such manner as can quickly be understood and evaluated.
Selects salient points of texts for illustration.
Plans, designs and develops visual aspects of an information technology system, including pictorial displays, models, illustrations, charts and graphs.
Plans and supervises art work performed under contract.
Serves in a consultative and advisory capacity in graphic problems.

In compliance with Federal Law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

Minimum Qualifications
(1) A baccalaureate degree, with a major in fine or graphic arts, from an accredited college and one year of full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist; or
(2) A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus two years of training in a technical school approved by a state's Department of Education or comparable governmental agency, in oils, water colors, painting, design, black and white, layout, computer graphics, and other art media, and three years of acceptable full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist.
To be qualified for assignment to Assignment Level II, individuals must have:
(a) at least one year of experience as a Graphic Artist, Assignment Level I; or
(b) the Qualification Requirements described in "1" or "2" above, plus two additional years of acceptable specialized paid experience conceptualizing and initiating graphic art projects.
Preferred Skills
Strong organization, professional manner, proven ability to meet deadlines, and attention to detail required.
Knowledge and understanding of all graphics terminology and production procedures, as well as proven experience working with related desktop programs required.
Background in Web/Print design, layout and production required.
Strong understanding typography, layout, and color usage.
Experience handling copy-heavy documents and ability to work with complex stylesheets.
Experience working with outside vendors (printers, translation services, etc).
Familiarity with graphic industry standards and best practices.
Ability to remain calm and productive under pressure and changing priorities.
Proficiency in use of leading word-processing, spreadsheet, and database applications including MS Office Suite, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
