Research Scientist, Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) Science Job ID: 2926301 | Amazon.com Services LLC
The Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) team is looking for a passionate, curious, and creative Research Scientist to join our top-notch cross-domain FBA science team. As a research scientist, you will be responsible for generating data-driven insights influencing business directions and product/policy designs, building statistical and ML models to learn Seller and customer behaviors, and collaborating with business and software teams to solve key challenges facing the worldwide FBA Seller business, including improving FBA Seller inventory efficiency, efficiently balancing the supply and demand of FBA Seller capacity, closing worldwide selection gap by enabling global selling profitability, and driving out costs across the FBA supply chain to spin the flywheel. Unlike many companies who buy existing off-the-shelf planning systems, we are responsible for studying, designing, and building systems to suit Amazon's needs. Our team members have an opportunity to be on the forefront of thought leadership by working on some of the most difficult problems in the industry with some of the best product managers, scientists, and software developers in the business. This role will work with other senior and principal scientists, and partner with engineering and product teams to integrate scientific work into production systems.
Key job responsibilities As a member of the FBA science team, you will play an integral part in Amazon's FBA inventory management with the following technical and leadership responsibilities:
Solve real-world problems by analyzing large amounts of business data, diving deep to identify business insights and opportunities, designing simulations and experiments, developing statistical and ML models tailored to business needs, and collaborating with Scientists, Engineers, BIE's, and Product Managers.
Write code (Python, Scala, etc.) to analyze data and build innovative statistical and machine learning models to drive FBA growth and efficiency.
Translate business problems into specific analytical questions and form hypotheses that can be answered with available data using scientific methods or identify additional data needed in the master datasets to fill any gaps.
Retrieve, analyze, synthesize, and present historical data in a format that is immediately useful to answer specific questions, improve system performance, or support decision making.
Conduct written and verbal presentations to share insights and recommendations to audiences of varying levels of technical sophistication.
Proactively seek to identify business opportunities and insights and provide solutions to shape key business processes and policies based on a broad and deep knowledge of Amazon data, industry best practices, and work done by other teams.
A day in the life As a Research Scientist, you will solve real-world large ML problems by analyzing large amounts of business data, defining new metrics and business cases, designing simulations and experiments, and building new and enhancing existing ML models. You will work with Product Managers, Software Engineers, and other Scientists to deeply understand FBA Seller business problems and priorities. You will lead the research where we are responsible for developing solutions to better manage and optimize worldwide FBA inventory capacity while providing the best experience to our Sellers to grow their business.
About the team Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) is a service that allows sellers to outsource order fulfillment to Amazon, allowing sellers to leverage Amazon's world-class facilities to provide customers Prime delivery promise.
