Description
The Georgia Composite Medical Board licenses physicians, physician assistants, respiratory care professionals, perfusionists, acupuncturists, orthotists, prosthetists, auricular (ear) detoxification specialists, residency training permits, cosmetic laser practitioners, pain management clinics, and genetic counselors. The Medical Board investigates complaints and disciplines those who violate The Medical Practice Act or other laws governing the professional behavior of its licensees.

The Georgia Composite Medical Board is seeking a Criminal Investigator in the Investigations Division Enforcement (Athens/Augusta/Savannah Area)

Job Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision, investigates alleged or suspected violations of Federal, state, or local laws, rules, and regulations to determine if evidence is sufficient to recommend prosecution or to report findings to the appropriate jurisdictional authority for their action.
  • Collaborates with other authorities on activities such as surveillance, transcription, and research.
  • Conducts background investigations.
  • Experience managing a caseload of approximately 10-20 cases
  • Obtains and verifies evidence by interviewing and observing suspects and witnesses, or by analyzing records.
  • Obtains information related to cases.
  • Prepares reports that detail investigation findings.
  • Trains to identify case issues and evidence needed.
  • Utilizes proper software programs to store, collate and review financial information and evidence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and must meet the prerequisites and complete the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program certification; or two (2) years of experience in law enforcement or related field and Georgia P.O.S.T. certification. Note: Some positions may require the incumbent to have a valid Class C driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and MUST meet the following prerequisites: Georgia Post Certified Peace Officer, and two years of experience in law enforcement.

Necessary Legal Requirements:

Selected candidates are subject to mandatory pre-employment drug screening. Under the provisions of State Personnel Board Rule 9, these positions are subject to random drug screenings for continued employment.

Incumbents in this job are by law considered to be Peace Officers and therefore must meet the standards for this job prescribed by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council (POST).

Priority Consideration:

Priority will be given to those with POST certification as a law enforcement officer with experience in conducting criminal investigations for a law enforcement agency.

Preferred Criteria:

Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the qualifications listed above, demonstrate some or all the following skills/experience:
  • Three to five years of experience leading and directing law enforcement activities
  • Three to five years of investigative experience conducting criminal investigations in a law enforcement agency.
  • Experience in gathering information, writing, obtaining, and executing search warrants
  • Experience managing a caseload (20-30 cases per month average)
  • Experience writing detailed investigative reports
  • Experience conducting interviews
Position may be filled at lower level, depending on experience and qualifications.

Current Georgia state government employees will be subject to SPB rule provisions.
