Position Title: Head Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director and Administration
Supervises: Assistant Coach, team staff, including volunteers and student athletes
Salary: Per negotiated Contract

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The head coach works from district, board and OSAA policies to implement the sports program. They coordinate assistant coaches and team staff and adhere to the athletic oversight guidelines and rules of conduct established by the state and school district. They are responsible for conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Others may be assigned.
  1. Adheres to the policies of the Board of Education, District building standard practices and guidelines, the OSAA and the League.
  2. Attends all meetings scheduled by administration, athletic director and league.
  3. Aid the athletic director in maintaining student eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
  4. Organize and direct practice activities and exercises. Develops game strategy.
  5. Assesses player's skills, provides proper active supervision during all scheduled activities of players including, but not limited to, game, practice, locker room, and transportation areas.
  6. Provide firm, fair, and consistent discipline. Report serious infractions of rules or other player related issues to the athletic director as soon as possible.
  7. Model and promote good sportsmanship and appropriate competitive attitude of the team. Recognize good execution of the sport and work both individually and as a team to strengthen weaknesses in a positive, respectful and professional manner.
  8. Practice professional conduct during events and practices. Exemplify high standards of personal conduct and habits.
  9. Emphasize the importance of academic achievement of student athletes.
  10. Completes an injury report within 24 hours after an athlete has been injured during practice or competitions.
  11. Fosters good school-community relations by creating good communications and a positive relationship with students, parents, other members of the community, and the media.
  12. Publicizes the sport and encourages student participation by personal contact.
  13. Demonstrates the ability to provide effective individual/group instruction.
  14. Helps to ensure the proper use, care and management of facilities, as well as help oversee appropriate use and care of equipment.
  15. Follow safe procedures during practices and scheduled events to prevent and provide care for injuries. Have and apply personal knowledge of emergency first aid procedures.
  16. Participate in special activities as needed, such as parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
  17. Demonstrates an understanding knowledge of current rules and regulations regarding the sport as presented by the OSAA endorsed rule book.
  18. Keeps abreast of new coaching developments, innovative ideas and techniques by attendance at clinics, workshops, and reading relevant materials.
  19. Ensure security of activity areas and building keys.
  20. Promote the athletic program, and in no way work to undermine the specific athletic program, or Nestucca High School programs in general.
  21. Position requires reliable and dependable attendance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required
1. Ability to organize
2. Ability to supervise students
3. Currently certified in first-aid/CPR, or willingness to gain certification.
4. Knowledge of the sport and has the ability to teach the sport to students.
5. Ability to foster positive human relations
6. Pass OSAA certifications.

EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Head coach, Athletic Director with assistance from district administration.
