The Human Resources Generalist provides support at the professional level in some of or all the following functional areas: associate relations, training and development, legal comprehension and application, recruiting, and unemployment, with an understanding of HRIS capabilities as well as payroll functions. Human Resources Generalist Responsibilities: Working with the Director of HR, assists in leading the Human Resources function, ensuring accurate interpretation and administration of HR policies and programs and engages in the day-to-day HR functions, specifically related to but not limited to associate and labor relations, disputes and investigations, HR processes, rewards, & recognition, talent management and workforce planning. Provides positive and effective leadership to the HR staff. Builds relationships using active listening, coaching, and counseling skills to guide managers and associates at all levels, at all locations, while interpreting and advising on company expectations, policies, procedures, and goals. Handles associate and supervisory inquiries related to complex and/or sensitive employment matters, referring appropriate complex matters to appropriate managers. Reviews policies and practices to maintain legal compliance. Participates in unemployment hearings, as needed. Assists with recordkeeping related to hiring, terminations, leaves, transfers, and promotions particularly as related to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and diversity initiatives. Ensures employee counseling and related issues follow employment laws by reviewing and resolving concerns with management. Ensures the progressive discipline process is consistent across the organization and supports management and associates to ensure an effective resolution to present issues. Attends and participates in associate disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations. Handles routine People Services inquiries related to policies and procedures; refers complex matters to appropriate management staff. Leads or participates in People Service projects and initiatives aimed at improving processes, systems, and practices. Serves as a key member of the HR Team and provides business support which aligns with PS best practices and organizational objectives. Performs routine tasks required in administering and executing human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, disciplinary matters, performance and talent management, productivity, recognition and morale, and training and development. Attends weekly People Services "Same Page" and "L10" meetings. Acts as backup for the payroll specialist. Manages complicated FMLA and/or ADA leaves. Maintains knowledge on current employment, payroll and other HR related laws. Attendance is an essential function of the position. Performs other duties as assigned. People Services Generalist Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Management or related field; or equivalent combination of related education and experience is required. Five (5) years' related experience in the HR field including benefits and leave administration. PHR, SPHR, or other HR Certification, is a plus. Multistate experience is preferred. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Experience with Dayforce or another HRIS is strongly preferred. Ability to be extremely perceptive and able to relate to all members of the organization, at any level. Must be able to think and work independently, be creative in problem solving (reactive and proactive) and ensure the best interests of associates are balanced with corporate needs and the necessary direction of the organization. Ability to demonstrate a high degree of organization and manage time effectively with a proven ability to meet deadlines, is required. Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills are required. Fluent working knowledge of employment laws, at federal, state and local levels. Demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to demonstrate integrity, cooperation, attention to detail, self-control, and dependability.
