DR: Hiring a Principal Software Architect to own the architecture behind its AI-powered medtech platform, at intersection of cloud-based software, data science, and regulated medical devices. 10+ years, deep distributed systems (TypeScript/Node, GraphQL, React, PostgreSQL at scale). $210K to $230K base + bonus + RSUs, fully covered medical Our San Diego-based client is a thriving, publicly traded HealthTech company using AI, advanced imaging, cloud software, and data science to improve how complex medical procedures are planned and delivered. Their mission is straightforward: improve patient outcomes and lower the cost of care. The engineering challenges sit at the intersection of software, medical devices, data science, cloud, and manufacturing. We're looking for a Principal Software Architect to shape the technology foundation behind patented, AI-powered patient-specific surgical solutions and next-generation device manufacturing systems. You'll define the architecture connecting AI, medical imaging, cloud software, manufacturing systems, and medical devices while helping scale a platform that directly impacts patient outcomes. For the right architect, this is an opportunity to solve some of the hardest problems in healthcare technology, with the scope to shape the platform for years. This role requires both technical depth and customer empathy. You'll work across multiple teams, partnering closely with data scientists and hardware R&D engineers. Success means understanding how surgeons and clinicians actually work and translating that into the architecture behind systems that connect the digital and physical worlds. Architect the software ecosystem powering AI-driven surgical planning and patient-specific healthcare solutions Lead the evolution of a modern microservices platform serving clinicians, engineers, manufacturing teams, and external customers Design systems that connect medical imaging, AI models, cloud infrastructure, manufacturing workflows, and regulated medical devices Build the technical foundation for future product lines, continued commercial scale, and broader clinical adoption Serve as a senior technical thought partner to engineering and executive leadership on platform strategy, technology investment, and long-term architectural direction 10+ years of experience building complex software systems, with significant architecture experience ~Tech Stack: TypeScript, Node.js microservices, GraphQL federation and gateway patterns, React, PostgreSQL at scale, Prisma, Remix, native iOS, and cloud-native services. ~ Exceptional systems thinking, architectural judgment, and the ability to simplify complexity matter more than any specific language or framework. ~ Depth in modern backend architecture, APIs, cloud platforms, data systems, and application design ~ Experience building software that supports complex physical products, engineering workflows, or manufacturing systems ~ Bachelor's in Computer Science (or related degree) or equivalent practical experience Bonus Points For: Regulated experience within healthcare in areas such as medical devices, healthcare/EHR software, digital health, life sciences, medical imaging, surgical planning, CAD/CAM, and/or medical manufacturing technologies Experience working alongside AI, machine learning, computational modeling, or data science teams Experience shipping production-ready applications within regulated industries where traceability, security, and compliance are non-negotiable Native iOS architecture experience for enterprise applications 210,000 to $230,000 base salary, plus performance bonuses, RSUs, and excellent benefits (100% fully covered medical for employees and dependents) and other great perks. #
