R&D Food Technologist at ScanHalal ScanHalal is a halal certification organization based in Oak Brook, Illinois, dedicated to verifying the halal integrity of food products and ingredients for manufacturers and brands.
Role Overview As an R&D Food Technologist, you will support product development and halal compliance operations from formulation through production test runs, manufacturing start-up, and ongoing operations. Your work spans laboratory science, quality assurance, and halal certification verification.
Key Responsibilities
Execute daily quality checks on raw materials and finished products, documenting and reporting results
Manage non-conforming product records and coordinate corrective actions
Calibrate and maintain laboratory testing equipment
Prepare and organize all documentation required for third-party halal certification audits
Evaluate halal applications for new product items, assessing whether ingredients, processing aids, and production conditions meet Islamic dietary standards
Support plant production runs and participate in product development test batches
Conduct monthly food safety audits
Ensure both halal integrity and quality assurance standards are maintained throughout manufacturing processes
Qualifications and Experience Bachelor's degree in food science, chemical engineering, or a closely related field (preferred); or 2–5 years of hands‑on quality assurance experience in high‑speed food manufacturing
A combination of relevant education and practical experience is acceptable
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
Solid data analysis capabilities
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Experience with halal certification processes or familiarity with Islamic dietary requirements is a strong advantage
