Position Summary:

The Operations Director leads engineering, production, safety, and facilities organizations. The Operations Director ensures that product development achieves cost, schedule, quality, safety, and performance requirements as defined by the Program Management Director and company policies. The Operations Director works closely with Program Management, Planning and Integration, Finance, Quality, Affordability, Integrated Logistics, Test, and Contracts organizations.

Essential Functions and Major Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the Chief Naval Architect function receives necessary budget, tools, training, and direction.
  • Provide the Production function with required budget, tools, equipment, material, and training.
  • Ensure the Facilities function receives proper budget, tools, equipment, training, and direction.
  • Ensure the Safety function is provided the budget, tools, equipment, material, training, and direction to execute duties effectively.
  • Implement and regularly assess compliance with all Safety processes and procedures.
  • Introduce Lean/Six Sigma practices, Design to Cost (DTC) targets, workforce efficiency, and performance measurement techniques to ensure on-time, quality delivery with zero injury incidents.
  • Collaborate with advanced manufacturing and supply chain teams to improve overall program performance.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Manages a minimum of 5 direct reports, up to 10, including at least 2 Director-level subordinates.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with DoD 5000.1 and DoD 5000.2
  • Deep understanding of American Bureau of Shipbuilding (ABS) Rules and Guides
  • Proficiency in Lean / Six Sigma principles
  • Experience leading maritime engineering and production organizations throughout design, development, delivery, and support phases
  • Experience implementing DTC targets and executing VECP
  • Knowledge of Engineering Drawing Release Systems in maritime development environments
  • Proficiency in developing Integrated Master Schedules and Work Packages
  • Familiarity with Bill of Material (BOM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software
  • Experience in developing Basis of Estimate (BOE) and cost vs task historical data sets
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint)

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering with at least 15 years of experience in marine engineering, production, or program management. A Master of Science Degree is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Six Sigma / LEAN certification preferred

Work Environment:

This position requires the candidate to work onsite 5 days per week. The role may require occasional visits to production areas and local travel (up to 10%) and out-of-town travel (up to 5%) with notice.
